Just thought I would share an idea I have for displaying my King & Country Napoleonic figures...today I'm going to look at a used Napoleonic (reenactors) uniform to display on a half form to accent my figures...has anyone else done this or thought about it...if so do you have any pics to share.....of course I'm going to go look at a British uniform ....but feel free to consider a French one if you can't find anything else......:)...LOL...

WELLINGTON

If I was collecting WW2 I would have an original but in this case and era I'll have to settle for a reproduction!!

There's a collector out in San Fransisco named Doug Luna (who has more than 11,000 metal toy soldiers, including pretty much every single Aeroart St. Petersburg knight), who is of French descent, who also collects authentic Napoleonic era uniforms and kit. He displays both his uniforms and toy soldiers together, and I can only imagine that it must really be spectacular.

I have a few pieces of vintange militaria in my collection, including one WWI era Argyle & Sutherland Highlander's Glengarry cap, and they add a lot to my display, so I can only imagine that a tunic like the one you are describing would make a dramatic statement. I am always on the look out for an authentic 19th Century Gordon Highlander's tunic to add to the Gordon Highlander's drum and banner I already have.

Hey Louis...sounds relly neat...I would have to be rich to buy originals....I would have to say that the uniforms would be rather delicate and hard to maintain......as for the sutherlands...if you knew me 6 years agao I had both WW1 and 2 complete originals...........The uniform I'm looking at is the 41st foot which were involved in the war of 1812 with many battle honors including Queenston heights, after 1812 they assisted in being the occupying army in France....it comes with tunic hat and most of the equipment except the water bottle and haver sack...both which are not very expensive and somewhat easy to get....the tunics buttons are all marked to the 41st and the breast plate as well and hat.

Wellington,
I am a militaria collector as well as a model figure painter/collector. Ironically I am just in the process of displaying a Napoleonic period coatee of a colour sergeant of the 42nd Foot, Royal Highland Regiment, The Black Watch. It is a reenactment piece. I have a period piece feather bonnet as well. There are a few originals still out there but mainly in museums or outrageously expensive. Way beyond my means, although I my dad has just purchased an original sergeant's 1798 pattern Highland Broadsword.
Louis would have more luck getting a Victorian Period jacket from the 92nd particularly from the later period.
Reenactment uniforms from the 41st or the 8th Kings regiments are fairly easily obtainable in southern ontario due to the reenactments going on here related to the War of 1812.
I will try to get a picture of my coatee posted at some point.

Thanks for the info.... I collect original guns and swords from this period as well...you are right you can find reenactment uniforms once in a while for sale....mine complete is 750.00 with half form included...whetehr the 41st is easy to obtain or not they are a choice regiment...not trying to be disrespectful in anyway.

Wellington,
I agree absolutely, the 41st, together with Brock's own 49th and the King's 8th, not to mention Tecumseh's folks, did yeoman's work in repelling those darned Yanks will old Nosey was busy dealing with Boney!!

There is a reenacment uniform from the 41st up here in Port Perry at a shop called the Grenadier. It is quite stunning. I have an 1812 pattern Shako but do not yet have one of the earlier stovepipe shako's like the 41st wore in Niagara! Have to work on that.

I went and looked at that uniform today....that was the one I was talking about.....it wasn't very nice so I didn't buy it..unfortunitly....I liked the other one he had but it wasn't for sale....

Wellington,

I use to have my crusader that is now in my entry foyer beside my St Petersburg knight collection. When I got married a couple years ago, the crusader I have got moved to the entry foyer so we could get another chair in the family room. It looked really good beside my collection, so I am sure when you get yours together, it will look great.

I don't have any Napoleonic uniforms or weapons around my curio that holds my K&C Napoleonics. :( I actually have two very large prints of the USS Ticonderoga CG-47 that I served on in the US Navy right above that curio.

I still have a bunch of weapons on the walls in various rooms in the house along with prints of various battles. I have a very large model of the HMS Victory in my family room that I love. My wife is a great sport about it. Do any of you have that type of stuff up outside your own study/room? :)

Wellington,
If you have your heart set on getting a coatee of the 41st you could look into having the Discriminating General here in Ontario make you one, it would be expensive but their work is museum quality, quite top notch. Or you could contact the 41st Foot reenactment group and see if they can put you on to one of their sutlers to make you one.

Actually I have done this as well....he made me a Royal Newfoundland Tunic....his quote was 850.00....really expensive but as you say they are works of art.
