Hello, I just found this terrific message board and I am glad to meet other collectors. I also joined the Collectors Club last year and received two very nice figures. I received one nice packet of flyers but have not heard anymore about the club. I have been collecting King and Country for last 7 years and I am glad it is becoming more popular. Does anyone have any idea of the production runs?
I know some of the early sets were done in runs of 500. Anyone know the current runs?
Thanks
John A

Wow. Seven years. I've been collecting for 5 years. Which K&C sets do you collect?

Hi I always liked the airborne. In the begining I grabbed everything that had nice detail. I passed on most of the Arnhem sets, picking up Col Frost, Gen. Urquhart, the armoured car and indiviule pieces. I've got 85 sets about 35 retired. I would love to find some of the production runs, and I hope Andy keeps them reasonable so the market doesn't become flooded.
As long as the pieces accrue in value a lot of marriages will stay solvient.
I've got most of the airborne & german and their vehicles. Don't have many spares.....I'm lucky to still be married with 85 sets!
I have a seperate room in my house just for the boxes. Actually its really for my Harley Davidsons.
John A

Welcome Njja.I would say 85 sets puts you in the addict category.Check some of the earlier posts especially from Louis. He has a break down of all of the WWII sets from the very beginning of K&C.Louis is the our forum's search engine like"Ask Jeeves" on the net.Instead its "ask Louis." :)

I never really counted how many sets I have. Just busy acquiring retired sets. I just looked on my spreadsheet and I guess I'm an addict too. I have 121 sets which are all WWII. Welcome to K&C anonymous.

Njja I noticed your post said Harley's.A K&C collection and Harley's and still have a wife. What's your secret or is that why its Harley's?One's the wifes?? :D

You will never believe this one. I bought a 100th Anniversary Sportster Sport (last year they made it) and my wife saw the V-Rod. She asked me why I wouldn't buy that one also since it was there 100 Anniversary soooooo I did!
She is terrific I have been married for 35 years and she is very tolerant. Plus she got a convertible out of the deal. I'm pretty lucky anyone else would have tossed me out on my ear in 35 minutes!

Wow, my wife would have packed up all my k&c, strapped it to my Harley, and would have said "hit the road Jack".

Wives like that are keepers. Mine is totally understanding too. Every flat surface in our apartment is covered with King & Country vehicles, warbirds, dioramas and figures, and she hasn't killed me or thrown me out (yet!).

As far as number of K&C sets which I have, its easier to count what I need than what I have. Suffice it to say I have 46 of the original wood metal and resin vehicles (all but one ever produced, the resin hanomag - I have 4 of the wood ones, but have never been able to find the resin one), all of the Polystone vehicles (including 2 one of kinds I got directly from Andy), every WWII figure (except for the two early glossy sets of free french from 1993), 8 dioramas produced by K&C, every one of the production wood and papier mache buildings (except for the Hong Kong village gate) and 39 of the wood aircraft (38 warbirds plus a Huey Helicoptor). If I pulled it all out of storage I couldn't fit it in my apartment. I usually have about 5% on display, but about 10% of it was pulled out for the New York symposium. One of these days, when I have a house, I hope to be able to display all of it.

Production Runs, now there is a question that would take some time to answer. In the beginning (1984) Andy used to authorize 500 of each ofhis sets, and they came with a card indicating which number of 500 each set was. However, very rarely were the full 500 sets produced. In 1991, he produced a gulf war commemerative set of U.S. marines which was limited to 200 sets. Arnhem was again limited to 500 sets, but there was a second release with another 500 of each of the first sets produced. The early wood warplanes were sometimes extremely limited production, with many of the less popular planes limited to 5, 3, 2 or even 1 produced. Some of the more popular planes, like the Spitfire (perhaps 100 made), the ME109 (100) the Hurricane (50) enjoyed larger production runs. The first wood tanks (Tiger, Panther & Sherman) made in China were limited to 50 each. There were second and third (more detailed and nicer) productions of the Tiger (made in the Philopines) with about another 100 made total. The Sherman also had a second run of about 50 more detailed tanks. Many of the less popular wood vehicles had even more limited runs of 20-30 vehicles. The resin vehicles were usually limited to no more than 12, but there were more resin Kubelwagons made (maybe as many as 50-100). The first polystone vehicles were done in runs of 200, with an additional 100 winter sets made. Some of the winter production runs were even smaller, such as the winter Sherman (10-20) and the winter T34 (only made at the request of and sold by Tony Ciccarillo of the Toy Soldier Gallery in Highland Falls New York) (20). More recent polystone vehicles and figures have no set number for production, but may see 1000 or even 1500 sets made, depending on demand, prior to retirement. There are plans for a limited edition of Napoleonic cavalry soon with 300 sets of each made. The foregoing information is based on Andy's talk about the history of K&C and questions and answer sessions at the New York Symposium (based on memory, so may be a little off here and there), but this should give you a basic feel for K&C production over the years.

In the earlier days of K&C it seemed you could get a vehicle done in the paint scheme you wanted. Now that K&C has grown and produces so much product, it is very hard to have a custome piece made. I think that is what gave the earlier K&C product their character.

I am glad to see Andy start making some limited run products. It would be great to see some of the current products in a different camo like the upcoming 88 and Stug.

Thanks,
Bill sager

I hadn't counted the number of sets that I have but it also depends what you mean by a set. For example, I would count the bagpiper in 8th Army as as set even though it's only one figure just as I would count a four figure set as only one set. In addition, one of the houses from the Normandy Village would count as one set, not all of the houses. In other words, if it's got its own number, NV 01, WS 44, DD 25, etc., it's a set. On that assumption, I have 95 sets, with one more on the way, the Matilda. FWIW, 49 of these are retired.

I was going to start a thread, asking this question, leaving Louis out of course since his must be in the infinities :D

Brad,

I count the same way. I go by item number as a set since that is how they are sold.

Louis has by far one of the largest collections so we will leave him out. :)
Just kidding Louis.

I can't have a motorcycle or sports car, they would take up space I need to store and display my K&C stuff!!

Louis,

I'll be a nice guy and take those K&C sets off your hands so you can get your roadster.

You mean I can store stuff at your house! Great, I'll keep that in mind when I get kicked out of one of my in-laws basements.

Well thanks for all the great information! You certainly have a wonderful collection. I first saw in in a little shop in New York City 7 years ago. Each year I would make a trip up to visit my daughter and take bag fulls of it home. I think it is currently the best line produced. How did you find and begin collecting it?
John A

I agree if it has its own number its a set. The only reason I figured out the number of current sets I have is I finally had to do something with the boxes! When I started stacking them on shelves I decided it was time to start counting.
JA

Well I would consider it but I already have a daughter. She is an attorney in New York City. I send her photos of my current den so I know what items she would like. She just bought a 1760's house in Princeton, N.J. She always asks for the items I just passed to other collectors!! Almost without fail.

I don't know what you will do when you get a house! Heck you will probably have Andy move into the garage and set up production!!
You wife seems to be as terrific as mine! Congradulations!!!
