king & Country toy soldier show (1 Viewer)

Speaking from a dealers perspective and having never been to the London Show (yet), Chicago is the show of shows in the United States.

As has been pointed out, what sets it apart from other shows aside from The West Coaster is the room trading, which starts unofficially at 12:00 noon on Wednesday in rooms 5340 and 5342 (just ask Steven Chong) and runs through Saturday night.

That's three and a half solid days of room trading. For those who don't wear out five pairs of shoes wandering the halls all of that time, the show on Sunday ain't exactly chopped liver, the mob that decends on the hotel is pretty amazing. This past year, I didn't come up for air till about 2:30 on Sunday, four and a half solid hours of selling.

As far as King & Country dealers at the show; yes, a lot of us bring similar stock, but I make it a point to bring older sets to the show and to always have some retired sets to attract a crowd, works every time.

Aside from Chicago, the biggest show on the East Coast is Hackensack in November and the second biggest East Coast Show is Valley Forge held in May.

So in the US, it's OTSN, Hackensack, The West Coaster and Valley Forge, you really cannot go wrong attending any of these four shows and some of the smaller shows are good ones to get to as well...................so there you go.

Dear Gary,

I try to get as much information about the Chicago, WestCoaster and London shows as possible from various sources.

It is good to do homework so as to get the "mostest" out of the respective shows which do involve "longish" trips.

In my response to Brad, I was referring to his experience at OTSN Chicago 2009 in relation to finding Trophy sets in the pre-Sunday room trading phase.

Once again, my sincere thanks to you and SH for your kind assistance on Sunday.

Kind Regards, Raymond.:)

Dear Raymond:
Ah, I see you have made a reply back to me about not seeing Trophy sets at the OTS Show near Chicago in 2009. Some day in the distant future you may be able to buy some of my many Trophy mainly Zulu War sets after we may move to a smaller home or I am dead & Karen decides to sell off all the stuff she does not really like that much, ha, ha. I have instructed her to contact you first! I hope you get to visit the OTS Show near Chicago some time soon.
Warm regards, Gary

Dear Gary,

Thanks very much for your reply post.

You are very lucky to have Karen who is most supportive of your collecting hobby.

I think you are projecting too far forward. At my current stress levels, I think I shall be off first.

Best Wishes, Raymond.:)

Dear Raymond:
As I advised you just after the OTS Show @ Shaumburg, IL, USA in late September 2009 there was no Trophy sets that I saw. The editor of TS&MF magazine also advised me that he saw very little if any Trophy at that particular show. You may be better off trying to get Trophy sets off of eBay or else perhaps go to London, UK.
Your friend, Gary M. 2/23/2010

Gary,

Maybe there will be AZW Trophy at the 2010 Chicago show. I only saw a couple of Trophy sets, but no AZW sets.

Brian

Dear Raymond:

My prior reply post to you was sort of in jest. But still the time will come when I may have to REALLY downsize a whole lot and there will not be new purchases of toy soldiers to replace the sets sold off. Hopefully this will be more than a few years off with any luck. But I can not think of a better home for some of my toy soldiers than at your splendid home far away from the USA. I would guess my old 1990's Trophy sets should be worth a good bid by then? Please don't say that you will "be off first" before me. Think positive, what!

brad is right about trophy sets. i picked up a few indivdual boxer series figures. there were no napoleonics. of interest was an indian mutiny cart or wagon but for $350 i couldn't pull the trigger because i was on a quest for anzio annie. chicago is a great show and yes it is fun to meet everybody and discuss the hobby. it is probably the biggest maze you will be in when you are room trading. bring water
