Decided to display my King Tiger and noticed that the Black Cross and the 113 are applied in a real haphazard fashion. Both sides of the turret. Even the Leibstandarte logo on the front upper left looks poorly applied. Reminds me of the old decals from the 70-80's. Even the crest indentation is not in the right spot. Anyone else have this problem? They look ugly and I want to remove them without damaging the tank. Any suggestions? I understand the vehicle has a Zimmerit coating but there must be a way to apply numbers Etc without resorting to sheet decals.:(:(

I have one of the TCS Normandy King Tigers with the Porsche turret. I also disliked the appearance of the decals, the crosses, number, and insignia. I was able to remove the insignia and crosses with the tip of a pen knife blade. I left the numbers in place. There was plenty of space to work under the decal edges and since the decals were brittle, they chipped of easily. I repainted the crosses by hand and never replaced the insignia as there is some question as to whether it was carried at the time, anyway. Results were very good and the hand-painted cross looks good as it conforms to the zimmerit. -- Al

I replaced the decals on this Tiger, I think I did a how to thread here , if not I did it on the Battleground Art forum. The key is decal setting fluid.

These Tigers are incredible if you put some work into them.

I would buy some Archer dry transfers and apply them. They give a better finish and when painting on Zimm it is easy to make a mess!! There are some who think that you cannot apply transfers to a Zimm surface but, they are wrong. I use archer decals and they have a sticky side for positioning once cut put in place and then rub them into the Zimm surface one line by one. I use a set of fine tools from the craft called pergamano. Once applied then you can put a varnish over or, a decal fix (I use Vallejo) If you do not want to invest in such tools (they can be expensive) use cocktail sticks ensuring that you are gentle with the sharp end.

I would never recommend water slide decals on these surfaces and this is from my experience with these Konigstigers what CS did. They inevitably will come away or, look unnatural until the issue is fixed

If you look at my albums some of the CS Konigstigers I have done have had this done.

Hope it helps
Mitch

The markings on the Tiger were from a set of very high quality decals I had made which I sell in limited quantities. It consists of universal German and US Markings.

I soaked the surface and decals with liberal amounts of Micro-Sol and kept dabbing them, they sucked right in, then after they dried I sealed them, It has been about a year now and so far so good.
