What an outstanding model and an excellent idea for a range!

Do any of you who have Johns ear more often that I know if he plans to release differing versions of each plane for other Aces.

I would love to see Albert Ball, Hawker, Elton etc for the British and of course the Richthofen brothers. The list is endless.

There are also those who technically are not aces such as Roland Garros who had a major influence of combat aviation but not five credited kills.

there would have to be more releases in the works as this release will only as has been shown, will want collectors asking for more. Brilliant release
Mitch

This subject is the virtual can of worms, and I am thrilled. So many choices, both flers and aircraft. The Storks, the Lafayette Escadrille, 56th Squadron of the RFC, JG1, 94th Squadron USAS, and all the rest. Just a breath taking breadth of subject matter. I am like a kid who's wish has come true. Thank you, JJD.:D:D:D -- Al

This certainly is an exciting development in the hobby. Finally after all my beating the drum a manufacturer has seen fit and is able to do a 1/30 scale WWI airplane!!! Can't wait for the RED BARON! :D

That would be excellent. Perhaps a figure of Voss and his Tripe, to make a nice little airfield dio.:D Or maybe Richthofen and Boelcke standing next to their Albatross D-II's. Or Richthofen surrounded by his other Jasta pilots with another Tripe, perhaps Lothar's. Many, many possibilities.:D -- Al

There are unlimited possibilities with the Flying Circus. A lot of colorful designs.

This is pretty special, WWI aircraft AND aviators by John. Aviators of this era are a favorite subject and make for some great figures, but up until now in 1/30, matt and metal they were none to be found that I know about.

The Osprey book Jagdstaffel 2 ‘Boelcke’ – Von Richthfen’s Mentor has ~36 color plates of the Albatros and Fokker versions.

The Osprey series books on Aircraft of the Aces has many volumes on WW1 aircraft, both Allied and Central Powers. There are books on the Fokker Triplane, Albatros, Pfalz, Camels, SE-5, Spads, Dolphins, etc. The are also seperate volumes on Richthofen's Flying Circus, The Cigognes, and, I think, the Lafayette Flying Corps. They are all very informative and each has a large section of color plates. -- Al

All the WW1 aviation titles from Osprey should still be in print and readily available. There is a publisher out of Great Britain called Albatros Publications Ltd. that publishes great monographs on dozens of WW1 aircraft. There are, literally, well over a 150 titles on aircraft, units, camo, markings, and other technical aspects. They are softcover format with dozens of photos and many of the books have some color plates. They are a little expensive and hard to find in the US, but are worth it if you are a WW1 aviation addict. Best source for them probably is Byrd Aviation Books in Williamsburg, Va. They have a brick and mortar shop as well as a website. They have hundreds of other WW1 and WW2 aviation related titles. Good people too. -- Al

Forgot to mention the website, www.byrdaviationbooks.com. The Albatros publications are titled Windsock Datafiles and Specials. There are a ton of them. -- Al

I think this release is superb. Completely 'out of the blue', so to speak. Definitely a crossover between toy soldier collectors and aviation model collectors. The thing is how would aviation model collectors find out about it? Not being an aviation collector expert....aren't they either diecast model collectors or model building collectors/builders. So not sure where this would sit, as it's not diecast and is already built. The thing is, the more successful this range is the more releases there will be by John...both of aircraft and other 'normal' ranges, which is a good thing in my books. Anybody have any suggestions on how to publicise this range to others?

My Knights of the Sky is on its way. Saw them at Chicago Show and just had to have them in my collection. Ron

I've seen it mentioned on the aircraft forum I am on and answered a few questions on it.

Hi Terry,
Can you let me know which forum? PM me if you like. I don't belong to any aircraft forums, but I think I would like to.

Thanks

Pete
