Hi,
I have watched the films Waterloo, Zulu and Zulu Dawn dozens of times and need some more pre WW1 historical/War films for the winter months.
I have seen the Duelist and didn't like it.
I have got the Charge of the Light Brigade and I love it but I've seen it so many times now.
I've got Master and Commander and that was okay.
I have seen the Four Feathers and liked that a lot.
I've got and watched all the Sharpe episodes so I'm running out of amusement.
I was thinking about putting the Hornblower DVD box-set on my Christmas wants list. Has anyone got it and what did they think?
Any other films that anyone can think of based on 18th/19th century that I could buy from Amazon or eBay?

Thanks
Paul

I have the Hornblower set and I thought it was pretty good, I think you,ll like it. Not much out there for Napoleonic movies?
Here are a few I think you might like!
War and piece, The Russian version it has great battle action.
Napoleon, The A+E mini series
The pride and passion, Its an old movie about Spanish guerrillas moving a siege gun through Spain.
Love and death!^&grin Woody Alan poking fun at Napoleon, Good laughs!

Other non Napoleonic movies worth a veiw!
55 days in Peking
Patriot
Gods and generals
Gettysberg
Glory
Khartoum
Barry Lyndon
Lawrence of Arabia
Benedict Arnold
The crossing
1612- Great battle action but subtitles only
That,s all I can think of off the top of my head right now.

You should check out

Young Winston and Breaker Morant - both Boer War related

Hi paul,

Hornblower is being re-run on ITV3 on Sunday nights at the moment. It's the Naval equivalent of Sharpe – I like both. :wink2:

Wow that's a great list.
I remember seeing the film The Pride And The Passion I think a youngish Frank Sinatra was in one of the roles.
I'll have to see if I can find that Napoleon mini series on DVD.
Thanks for the list.:)
Regards
Paul

Martyn,
You are a star. {sm3}
I remember seeing those two films years ago but I couldn't remember what they were called.
I believe Breaker Morant was Edward Woodward and Young Winston was Simon something or other who was also in Zulu Dawn.
I'm going to buy those on DVD now. Or I may add them to the Christmas list. Beats socks.^&grin

This is and continues to be a head scratcher for me, why aren't there more Napoleonic movies out there, there should be loads of them, but for whatever reason, it is not a subject focused on.

I liked the Russian version of War and Peace, the other version with Henry Fonda in it is not too bad, I liked the French attack on the Russian Redoubt during the Borodino footage.

There is also a Masterpiece Theatre War and Peace out there, I remember seeing it on PBS as a kid and loving it, not sure how it would rate if I saw it today.

The Napoleon series was pretty good on A & E, although the Waterloo footage was dreadfully bad.

The pride and the passion; saw this recently on some rinky dink channel, Sinatra has THE worst rug in the history of movies on during the movie, another one I saw as a kid and loved it, but after seeing it again, it is God awful.

On another note; regarding the Sharpe Series; can anyone recommend specific episode with good battle scenes, not just skirmishes, but larger battles, have seen the Waterloo one, not bad, any others worht seeing for the battle scenes?
