In the days following the surrender of Germany in May 1945 a group of young German prisoners of war was handed over to the Danish authorities and subsequently sent out to the West Coast, where they were ordered to remove the more than two million mines that the Germans had placed in the sand along the coast. The order was a violation of the Geneva Convention which prohibits subjecting prisoners of war to forced labour.[4] With their bare hands, crawling around in the sand, the boys were forced to perform the dangerous work under the leadership of the Danish sergeant, Carl Leopold Rasmussen (Roland Møller).

To be released in the US 17 February 2017. Probably limited to Art Theaters.

Caught this today on cable; very good movie. Over 3,000 German prisoners were forced to perform this task, over half of them were killed or severely injured, most of whom were mere boys.

Pretty sad movie to be honest.

The Danish sergeant was excellent.

Just picked it up this week on dvd and looking forward to watching it
