Last American WWI Veteran Dies (1 Viewer)

This is a sad day. The last US link to a war that changed history and the world is gone. I do not know for sure, but there cannot be more than one or two WW1 survivors left anywhere in the world. -- Al

Rob, there a good men and woment serving across the globe every day. But I share your admiration for those who served in that terrible conflict.

Almost 5,000,000 and being the last one.65,000,000 and only 2 left.It boggles the mind.
May they all rest in peace now.

So sad. May they requiescant in pacem. My hope is that what they did is not forgotten, and that such a horrible war shall never be repeated. It's so boggling to think my father's uncles all fought in WWI, and now there are only two of their fellows left.

The same conversation must have taken place when the last of the Rev War and Civil War veterans were passing away too. It is hard to fathom. The true fate of all people. Only difference is how and when it happens.

I just realized that WWI is to me how the American Civil War was to my parents. Darn. 90 years difference in both situations. Time is a funny thing. But yes, it happens to everyone.

Yes, and in another 20 years or so it will be our turn to say goodbye to the last WWII veterans, so we better appreciate them now, while we still can.

I thought it was a bit over the top for the family to request he lie in state in the rotunda and I wonder about the burial at Arlington.

It's one thing to have been a hero, having seen combat and acted heroically, and to have been the last of a generation.

I have no problem with it being who he was,,non server politicians are in Arlington while restrictions apply to most veterans,,even if their graves arent lost or tombstones tossed in a pile due to the administration of the place.

Really? Politicians are buried there who didn't serve? Who?

One example of a Pol. of another land even,Manuel Quezon of the Phillipines,I wont pik the nits ,the names and numbers are available,,the regs say Presidents on down ,those holding federal office and their families etc plus those receiving the blessing including the white house dogcatcher.Tough if its a problem,,some of us do with non servers in general.Arlington is full of "family" members who also didnt wear the uniform,,Phyliss Kirk actress,,her 4th cousin was BGen Redderings driver in 1934
