Lauren Bacall, a wonderful actress and great New Yorker, passed away earlier this week. Here is her New York Times obituary, http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/13/movies/lauren-bacall-sultry-movie-star-dies-at-89.html?_r=0

She first became well known for the Whistle Scene when she starred opposite Bogie in Hemingway's To Have and Have Not, directed by Howard Hawks, as a sensuous movie you will ever want to see.

I had a sort of connection to her. Born Betty Perske, she and my Mother attended Julia Richman High School in NY at around the same time where, my Mother said, she was known just as Betty. Julia Richman was one of the first high schools on New York's Upper West Side. Sadly, it no longer exists. Then, in 1969, I started as a Freshman at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. We found out that her and Bogie's daughter was also a Freshman there. That was the talk of the campus for a couple of days.

She will be missed.

RIP, Lauren Bacall. Another legend from the Golden Age of Hollywood gone. There are few left and we are poorer for it. -- Al

As Al says, passing of a legend, she was so sultry and had such presence. May she R.I.P (Nice story Brad)

Brad:

As Rob said, great story.

This is the passing of a legend whose presence will live on eternally in film.

RIP Ms. Bacall.

Thanks for the comments. Whenever my Mother happened to see a movie of Lauren Bacall's or her HS came up, she would mention Betty Bacall and how she knew her way back when; my Mother graduated HS in 1940.

She brought a lot of class to whatever she filmed. Even cat food commercials I might add. Chris
