Does anyone have an educated guess on how much longer the AWI 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers will be available before the series is retired?

I am in need of several quantities of these figures and just wondered how long I might have to acquire them.

I assume these will be retired before the Hessians as they have been around longer, as I am prioritising collecting the 23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers (although I really cannot wait to start adding some Hessians)!

Cornwallis,

These Brits came out in March 2005. The retired Americans that were just retired came out in August 2003. If it were based just on that, I would say you would have more time. However, K&C will probably retire these instead of making more production runs because they are much less than the new standard of $32 each per figure. I would hurry up and try to get them.

I was asking myself the same thing..i own only 2 members and i'd like to complete the line..

You might have a little time due to the fact that these British Figures are the same size as the new Americans that are coming out. My bet would be a slow roll on retirements like we have seen with Romans and other AWI figures.

But, I would make them a priority - their cost is way below the new standard price like Darrell said - and that makes them a big target to go away this year for sure ! You could have like 5 figures a month going bye-bye !

Get figures - look good in line formation. Here is a diorama of mine :D

Hi Guys,

I fear our friend “Cornwallis” is worrying himself unduly… K&C have not been producing 23rd R.W.F for several years now!

Our Rev. War Redcoats are a generic British Regiment with no particular Regimental affiliations… So, rest easy Corporal Cornwallis your Redcoats are not going to be retired any time soon.

Best wishes and… happy collecting.

Capitolron,
You have some awesome displays.
I am thinking your next project should be a full Delhi Durbar parade of Beau Geste figures including all the elephants. Treefrog should note that if this happens I expect a commission ! Does anybody know of a collector who has such a display ?.
Whilst Delhi Durbar is a different type of era if anybody has not had a look at that range it is worth a look just to see how colorful it is. Not promoting it but just admiring it.

Not sure if you are keeping up with the news in the USA ....

There are less ELEPHANTS coming to Washington, DC these days - Not More !

LOL

Ron

PS - thanks for the king words on my collection - much appreciated.

There is a gentleman on the Beau Geste website that has such a collection. I also think wadepat has a fairly large collection also and Dave.

That is good news from K & C HQ. I like this line of redcoats, even if it is not a specific regiment. I think that actually opens up more opportunities for dioramas.

Though I like the Continental infantry previewed in the latest dispatches, I wonder how many collectors would like a generic Continental regiment? Kind of like how Britains has done with their blue coat-red facing releases.

Dear Ron,
Yes we do keep up with the news down here.
However I am sure you will agree Delhi Durbar elephants more impressive than a "donkey" variation.
I look forward to more images of your displays. An address would help so my team of burglars can do a KingandCountryGate and pay you a visit !!

Actually some donkey and mule sets for an Afghan War baggage train would be fantastic. :)

The donkeys & mules train .. could be used in almost all of K&C ranges. If K&C were to do such a baggage train, the sculpts could be re-used & re-used again almost without end.

OR ... the could sell them, separately as generic beasts of burden ... with various clip-on pack options for the different periods/ranges.

Andy did a mule train set, along with a couple of different pack camels, back in the days when he did glossy stuff. Here is a quote from the book about these sets:

"By 1989 King & Country released an entire new series of far better sculpted Seaforths (in the sets described above plus several new editions, including a stretcher team and a mule handler leading two pack mules). . . .

The Seaforth mule team (HBM), consisted of a handler (identical to the stretcher bearers, but without the red cross arm bands) and two pack mules, a gray pack mule with two ammunition boxes, and a brown pack mule with two medical boxes. The set originally retailed for $35.00. . . .

The 1990-1991 Post Card Catalogue included two Guards Camel Corps pack camels. . . . The two pack camels were merely the camels for the above camel corps figures with packs to fit into the saddle-holes instead of figures. The first (PC1) carried a gunpowder barrel and ammunition boxes. The second (PC2) carried water barrels, general supplies and a pick and shovel. These pack camels originally retailed for $35 each."

Thank you Louis for the back info ...

well, here's hoping that Andy decides to re-visit a supply train for all the matt armies that K&C is producing now. Not only, could he do a "train" for most of the current ranges, all the adversaries would need their own supplies. For eg in the NAPs era, the French, British, Russian and even the Dutch would beed to be supplied.

Imagine ... how many sets he could sell .

Thank you very much for replying Andy, thats a huge relief! :D

That is even better news due to the price point for each of those figures - at $21.00 per man and only $35.00 for a Flagman - that makes them one of the BEST BUYS in the K&C Line. :D

If those prices remain same - which I would suppose they would until they are retired - how do others not start collecting AWI for THOSE PRICES !!!

Good time to be a AWI Collector !

It certainly helps, I need around 25-35 of the BR040 figures for my diorama before even thinking of any others!!!
The only downside to me is the poor exchange rate £ to $ which means I am restricted to saving up £170.00 ($250.00) to take advantage of the free shipping that most dealers provide on purchases $250.00 and over. I am even considering selling my Delprado Napoleonic figures to bolster my K&C funds.
But very very pleased to hear that they are going to be around a while as I can hopefully hit that 25-35 BR040's by the end of the year!

Tom-
And you know how it will go. As soon as you line up the first few of these infantryment, you will need more! I started with the flagbearers and officers first, and are now filling in with the marching infantry. However, each time I look at it, I think the formation needs to be larger!
