John is old school with the metal pot and hotplate...and frankly that method works as well as any. However, if you have to go out and buy the hotplate, pot, and ladle, you might as well just buy a casting pot with a valve. You can usually find a decent cheap one on ebay. I have a few used ones, and they are all fine.
