As to being informed as to what we are collecting???? Answer: "The Best, Most Detailed, 54mm Toy Soldiers Available Today"....That should be enough for most of us....Why not produce more of what most collectors want....If there's a DEMAND....Supply It.....Hopefully First Legion will not allow speculators to dictate what or how much may be produced....most of us collect FL because of the quality "not exculsivity" of the product.....Most of us don't collect FL to re-sell latter at a higher price and fund "their future purchases".........I don't need or want my toy soldiers numbered on the bases;....Lastly if your looking for an investment try Smith Barney.....Or go out and work for your own money.

Vezzlof You dont know what you are talking about I invest in many things. Toy soldiers are ultimately for my enjoyment and then hopefully for the enjoment of my Son should he ever wish to dispose of my collection I am satisfied he would be very happy with the proceeds as usual you have the wrong end of the stick. I just like things to do or be what they say on the tin. Matt has amended the site to reflect my point I am now clear about what but more importantly in what order I am collecting. No need to get personal old chap.

Seems to not be part of the FL sales plan...It would be good if FL produces "according to demand"...Time will tell......They do have the kind of product that will sell itself without having to resort to the limited edition game.

My point exactly Vezzlof they relied entirely on the Limited edition game in the initial Marketing of these fine figures but now success is attained the exclusivity has been dropped. That said I believe the standards will remain the same so no problem

Hi Panda,

I think your question is very legitimate and interesting. As Matt replied, the Bavarians are the way to go if you want rare FL figures. However, I don t have any. Not that I don t like them. It s just that I prefer much more the last releases even though they are less rare. Like my friend Gebhard, I prefer quality over anything else.

Cheers,

Alex

Alex I wouldnt thank you for ther Bavarian figures personally I dont feel they were that good and would pay $10 for one I really like the Naps especially al the French cavalry the personalities the Brit and French Gaurds and the Brit Cavalry I like the poses utilised for the Highlanders and will collect them although I feel one or two that I have look slightly out of proportion perhaps to flat in the chest " No matter they are still good " I wish we had more Brit Infantry in square at the make ready at attention or marching charging rather than just the usual ramming and at the present. but time will tell. I am looking forward to the 95th Rifles release and will incorporate some into one of my squares for effect. would like to see a few dead injured Artillery crews and perhaps a Limber and horses for the 12 pounders.

I am glad that Panda brought up some valid and interesting points. FL is a young company and biz is biz - so I gather it is still finding its way as to the best way forward. As I mention before, I personally would prefer that it produce according to demand rather than use limited edition to drive sales. Limited edition brings another kind of dynamics into play. I am not criticising it but I would rather deal with this hobby on a simple level of buying for keeps mainly (buy-and-hold; the holding period being likely to be "forever") rather than to "buy and sell higher". I rather do my trading in the financial markets. As it is, FL products are stretching my budget for the quantity and range I want to get involved with. Therefore, I have resolve not to pay higher prices in the secondary market. It's either I get all I want at orginal prices or I let it pass - and I move on. There are more than enough things to collect anyway.

Glad to know the Gordons are not limited, so perhaps I don't have to accumulate a huge sum before I get to enjoy them. I believe there should be quite some people who miss out on some pieces of the British Guards and it really does not make sense for some of us who cannot get the flagbearers.

The Bavarians are quite nice and I would have got them if all were available. Although it is a small release, it will still do fine enough if all pieces are available. I will have to let it pass.

If you read Matt's response, First Legion isn't producing limited editions to drive sales. Matt is trying his best to match production to demand, and thereby get the best price for the best quality possible. Believe me, the cheer-leading posts aggravate me almost as much as the whining, but I've got to stand up for First Legion here.

THERE IS NO FIRST LEGION CONSPIRACY TO STEAL YOUR MONEY!

I'm guessing that the Napoleonic Bavarians came out in the smallest batches because they were the first line produced, and Matt didn't know how much demand there was for the product. The soldiers are made in lots, whether 250, 500, or 1000 at a time. Matt can't just say. "Hey, paint me up three more of NAP00156; I've still got demand for it." He has to wait and plan a new run of 500 or 1000. Production isn't limited to make you buy a piece; production is limited by the expectation that so many can be sold. That's not to say that advertising something as limited edition is bad; call the Franklin Mint and see how many "limited editions" are stacked in their warehouse that they can't get rid of.

I don't think anyone is accusing FL of stealing our money.......First Legion is not decieving collectors in any way as far as I can see....Limited Editions are fine......but......If there is indeed more "serious demand" for a sold out line or product, it would seem that a short "re-plenishing" run of 200-300 would be to the benefit of First Legion sales, as well as serious collectors.......It would also keep speculators out of the game who only seek to re-sell manufacturers products at ridiculous secondary market prices......I personally refuse to be manipulated in the secondary market to complete a collection .......These decisions however are completely at the decression of First Legion as to wether a limited run is "re-released"....it's their product and they can move the "goal-posts" as they see fit..... They make top quality products and do not need to resort to exclusivity and the "retired products" ploy....If they choose to make it (or make more of it).......it will sell.

I am not sure I get where you are coming from. If you have read post #10, you should be able to decipher that I never said FL is into the limited edition game. Whose to judge what comments are "rah-rah" or "whining"? And even if they are, a bit of tolerance would go a long way to making this hobby the fun thing that it should be. We have mostly civil discussions here, so let's not jump to conclusions too quickly.

FL conspiracy to steal money?! I make no such accusations. We are better than that in this forum, I believe.

Peace out.

You would think so Gebhard but here in UK if we order direct from USA /Matt we get stiffed with Postage +Import Duty + 20% VAT Its best here to order from TM terrain or specialists like Maison Militaire etc, if you place a decent order they try and look after you. Although I have bought FL figures from almost every dealer in Europe without any problems. Mounted figures here average around £120 inclusive of Vat.
