This was the famous mount of Stonewall Jackson universally known as Little Sorrel. But by what name did Jackson himself always refer to him as?

Quite correct, little cheat. OK smartipants answer me this, which Confederate general fought his first battle wearing a high beaver hat and carrying a blue cotton umbrella?

At a guess I would say Brigadier General William Smith?

Jeff

You've been Googling again, haven't you? OK What coincidence links Chancellorsville in May 1863 and The Wilderness in May 1864?

Both Jackson and Longstreet were accidentally shot by their own men. ;)

Jeff

Right again. Let's see if I can bowl you a Googly this time. What was the name given to the young Sudanese boy adopted by the British after the Battle of Ginnis and with which regiment did he go on to serve with?

Jimmy Durham (Mustapha) later served as a bandsman in 2nd Bt Durham Light Infantry.

Regards John

Score is now Forum 4 - Trooper 0 :p

Sounds like a World Cup result! They should never have invented the internet. OK, next try, what unusual feat was accomplished by Private Henry Hope of the 11th Hussars? And I'm not going to elaborate further just so you will have to work harder.

Question - what was the name of the Commanding Officer of the British 23rd Light Dragoons at Waterloo 1815 and how come he had to serve the battle attached to another cavalry regiment?
quite a sad story!

Lt. Col The Earl of Portarlington. Delayed his departure from Brussels and arrived too late to take command of his regiment. Fought as a private with the 18th Hussars.

Bugger! I was hoping you was going to get that one John! ;) I give up as well. :(

Aha! Unconditional surrender, I like it. Private Henry Hope was a member of the 11th hussars, part of the Light Brigade in the Crimea. He didn't charge with the Light Brigade but DID charge with the Heavy Brigade. OK next one, when Lincoln was asked how large the Confederate army was why did he answer "About 1,200,00 men"?
