To the Forum Members on the Other Side of the Pond:

I’m going to London for a week starting on 9/12, and I want to soak in some of the city’s WWII history. I’ve been before, so will definitely go to the Imperial War Museum and the Cabinet War Rooms again. Other than that, what else is there to see and do as relates to the city’s history during WWII? In addition, what's the best way to pick up some tickets to an EPL game? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

There's the Britain at War museum next to London bridge which is very good and looks at life in London during the Blitz. The museum of London may also have some displays on Ww2 as well. HMS Belfast is also well worth a visit. Royal Air Force museum just outside London in Hendon is superb but mainly aircraft. Sorry can't help with EPL as I don't really follow it.

Pity you couldn't arrive a week earlier, you could then have taken in the London Show on the 3rd and met up with the British Battalion of TreeFrogers. Trooper

I agree with Rob on this one - well worth a tour round.

In relation to the EPL games you can pre order tickets from most box offices for the football teams in the capital and pick them up on the day or, you can visit the box office on the day and get tickets for most of the games that go on in the capital. Try Arsenal as the emirates is a superb stadium and probably the best in the capital. They do tours also if you can organise that its well worth it.

Sgt Rock...

are you speaking "American" when you say 9/12? (September 12th)

If you are speaking "English" that means the 9th December!!!

Maybe you may like to claify that for the English "Gentlemen" ^&grin

John,

English to my marrow but 'Gentlemen' ? I think I can speak for the London show bar brigade when I say not one of them! They are a press gang of drunks, vagabonds , vandals and barbarians who will lift your wallet as they shake your hand....a nicer group of chaps you couldn't wish to meet!:wink2:^&grin

Hi John:

Yes, I am speaking American when I say 9/12, so I'll be there on September 12.

Thanks Rob. I think I would really like the Britain at War museum and the HMS Belfast, so I've added them to the Itinerary. Have you heard of the Battle of Britain Airshow at Cotswold Airport in Kemble; it's on September 17-18? I want to try to go there as well. In addition, what days do you work at the Imperial War Museum? I'll be there at least two full days and would like to say hi.

How many of that same British Battalion do you think will be in Chicago? That's where I live, so I'll be back in time for all of the activities.

Thanks Mitch. To be honest, I didn't even consider Arsenal as I thought they (or Man U) would be the hardest ticket to come by. I think if I had my pick, I would go see Clint Dempsey play at Fulham. I don't think that there's much question that he's our best American player. Is scalping tickets outside the stadium and an acceptable and legal practice in London?

It happens but, you need to be careful what your buying and from whom and all sorts of laws about this. Have a look at the website as I suggested for Fulham and see what they do. Even Man Utd still have tickets on sale for games. Hope you get to see a game as the PL atmosphere are really unbeatable for passion and a bit of rivalry.
