Long Overdue Recognition For American War Hero (1 Viewer)

I have a fair bit of interest in medals but not a great fan of awarding them so long after the event.

The UK and Australia have not gone down this path although Australia did upgrade some Vietnam medals a few years back although not to the level of Victoria Cross. A review last year looked at 11 possible VC's (mainly Navy) but none were approved.

In the case of Cushing I am no expert on the ACW but he would appear to have been more worthy than those awarded in some engagements where large quantities were awarded (I recall there was a naval engagement where many were awarded). Of 1522 MOH's awarded in ACW 63 were at Gettysburg. Many were for capturing flags which were considered important for morale purposes and obviously fiercely defended.

Does anybody know who will actually receive the medal on Cushings behalf ? He was only 22 when he was killed and it would be interesting to know who Obama will present it to.
