Looking for Britains North Gate Diorama (1 Viewer)

I am seeking the Britains Waterloo series North Gate Diorama Britains catalog number 00148N.

I know they are available on eBay, but the cost of shipping from the UK, where most of them appear to be available, is very expensive. One eBay seller quoted me 50GBP, which is more than $100 just for shipping.

While a new set would be good, I am more interested in the 2 wall sections more than I am in the figures. If anyone has a previously owned set in good condition, with both walls in good condition, I would be willing to purchase it.

uh oh......Looks like Peter's web site he provided us on Britain's previous catelogs has got you on the hunt......:) Happy hunting, sorry I don't have any of the sets, I have been tempted but have fought it off with great pressure.

I just saw one on an American Site for sale I was looking for something else and found but I am not sure which site I did a web search for Toy Soldiers and I believe the place was in California. If I can find it again I will send you a link.

sceic not to rub it in or anything but i just got a real good deal on another north gate set that was the walls and gate only(no figures). One of the latches on the gate was broken but i was able to fix it. The best part is i pnly paid 11.00 pounds and 10.00 shipping, it came out to under $40.00 with shipping to the u.s.. I went with the surface mail wich is half the price of the airmail. Thats what i use when i buy my del prados it just takes longer to get to you and some times if there is room on the planes it can come just as fast as airmail. If you keep your eyes out on ebay you can find more of these. I got my first north gate on ebay also the whole set like new for $78.00. There are alot of them floating around and some fly under the radar for cheap. I got all the britains napoleonic sets minus the 3 piece highlanders(which aren,t that great) and I,m missing a few of the napoleonic leaders and i know i,ll find them cheap so i,m not in a rush to get them. I got kutsov on ebay for $0.99 and all the other sets of britains i got i paid origanal price or less (most less). So shop around I,m sure you,ll find one.

Hi Sceic,

I'd have to say I was with my friend Fishhead on this subject. I have been working on the Durbar set from Britains for a while and I have just about found them all by doing what was said about the hunt on ebay and elsewhere. Also you should ask the UK dealers you have seen on ebay if they will ship for the lesser rate sometimes they will do this especially if you are a repeat customer. Keep the fingers crossed.

I believe the site is Bill Muesing's Toy Troops (http://www.toytroops.com/), which lists the set for $195. However, I do not think he has updated his site for quite a while.:(

Michael, just curious was it that guy that i suggested you ask?

Nope, he is a fellow I have been buying alot of del prado's from. He is a doctor in Dublin who sells on eBay as something to do. He just happened to have a friend who had one, brand new, with the book. Paid less than the original price, even with shipping from Ireland. I saw the set you got, at least I think I did. It was on eBay recently. The guy was selling the walls seperate from each of the figure groups, French and Bristish. I almost got that one but forgot to go on line to bid. Michael

Very cool, I am looking for the Britains 95th Rifles set that went the way of the wind a while ago. If you guys see one that isnt priced like gold let me know.

Dave

I got the set yesterday. Great detailing on the wall sections. The men sure are smaller than K&C Napoleonic's. I just put them back in the box as they really do stand out compared to the them.

I have had a chance to read about half of the book that came with the set. Very interesting reading. It is put together very well. It has orders-of-battle colored battle placement maps, and many pictures of oil paintings of the era. I think I will have to get the Waterloo and Trafalger (spelling bad on that one) companion books that Wellington has refered to. If anyone has a chance to get the Britains book, I recommend it. :) Michael

It sounds like a good one to find. Its always good to get a solid order of battle supported with the maps and pictures of the site in question. I just got a copy of Mark Urbans book Rifles it is very good and has a lot of details about the soldiers, their life and the personalities of the leaders in the 95th Rifles. I highly recommend it for the folks out there interested in the Napoleonic Era. By the way anyone have a 95th Rifles set they want to unload?

Dave I have the rifles book and also liked it alot. And I have the britains waterloo book wich is the same book as the osprey waterloo book just in hard cover with a picture of britains north gate set, so if you have the osprey don,t waste your money. I have 2 sets of the britains 95 rifles but i want to keep them unless you have a set of the 3 piece highlanders and would like to trade as thats the only set i,m missing. SCIEC Looks like you won the bid on that north gate, congrats. Now i can let the cat out of the bag about the other stuff that guy has up on ebay now. Hes got the north gate figures at buy it now for $5 each and he also has the books at buy it now also.http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfrtsZ50QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsassZmklmo

I dont have the osprey book so I will see which one I can find. I will also see if I can find the set you are looking for I dont have it either but I may see one out there.

Hi Guys.
I have been a Napoleonic fan for many years and can recommend the following books which are full of interesting facts and stories.
Mark Urban has written another Napoleonic themed book called 'The Man Who Broke Napoleon's Codes' (ISBN 0 571 20513 5) a factual story of the Peninsular War.
Another book called 'A Dorset Rifleman' (ISBN 0 9522782 2 7) 'The Recollection of Benjamin Harris' is edited by Eileen Hathaway. This is also about the Peninsular War.
Both are excellent!
They are still available here in the UK, not quite sure about the availability elsewhere?
Regards.
Jeff
