looking for real sand from Omaha beach, Normandy (1 Viewer)

Unless I got the sand or pebbles myself from any of these places I would be more than skeptical of it not coming from the sellers childs sandbox in the rear yard of his house in Chicago!

You just have to check out the seller and the price. When I was looking for

the Iwo Jima sand it found it quite easy to find a fellow who went into great

detail about the different grades and how he obtained it.

Dont know if this helps but here is a close up of Omaha Sand....broght it back from my trip to Normandy.....It is very "fine" grained sand.

I'll get you some Sammy when i return next year,i'll get the wife to take pics so you know its genuine.I feel that a lot of people consider it a sort of homage to the troops of D Day to take some sand from all these beaches.Myself i would have no interest in trying to sell any at all,i would only take it for myself or a friend.

I've found shrapnel,bullets and bullet clips on the Somme and at Ypres/Passchendaele but again have no interest in selling them,its a personal thing,i'm not preaching in any way and each to their own.I know it sounds a non event guys but when i spotted a tiny bit of Green metal in the dirt of Deville wood,pulled it,and suddenly there in my hand was a full clip of British Bullets dropped by one of millions of soldiers the best part of a hundred years ago,it was like WOW!

I guess thats what our love of military History does to us

Hey all. I am not a collector but happened upon this thread by accident. I am a US Army Retired SFC and currently Army Civilian stationed in Heidelberg.

Wife and I are going to Normandy next week which should be an emotional visit since she is German.

If any of you would like me to get you some sand I will see what I can do. Send me an email through this website.

Thanks to Bert for coming through for me, I recieved a large container of Normandy sand a couple days ago, I cannot thank him enough for helping me with this, I hope to make it to Normandy personally one of these days, but at least I do have some real sand from the beach site, I think I will display it in my soldier room in a nice container with a nameplate for all to see, thank you again Bert, you are a true friend...Sammy

I too happened upon this thread by chance because I have been searching for the same thing. A fairly large container of sand, preferably from each of the beach landing zones, but especially from Utah and Omaha. My thought is to place them in small glass containers, perhaps hour-glasses, and present them as gifts, especially to veterans. If someone could be of help, I would greatly appreciate a contact. Thanks to all.
