I thinking about purchasing the book,
When all brother's are silent. (Wenn alle Bruder schweigen)
It's stated to be the best and largest book on the Waffen-SS. Lot's of pictures. Unpublished photo's Etc. I believe there's input from former SS leader Paul Hausser. Does anyone have a copy of this book? Would you recomend? It runs about $100.00 and want to make sure it worth the purchase. Looking for some good photographic Waffen-SS books.

It is largely considered to be the best PHOTO history of the Waffen SS. It has a tremendous amount of photos that were unpublished at the time of the original printing. Many have since been reproduced in the unending stream of books that have been done on the Waffen SS,ie., divisional, regimental, company, and just plain biographical works. Still, it is a book well worth having as it gathers in one place these photos that show the W-SS in action and just about every other situation. No one I know (including me) were ever disappointed in this massive book. It will form an excellent base for any W-SS book collection you put together. -- Al

I would highly recommend it and, if you want other photo packed books on the waffen SS the set of six Kursk books chronicling the activities of the SS units in this battle are packed with very good pics. There are some very detailed books on the SS but, don't come cheap but, you are starting with a brilliant book to start a collection or a stand alone book

As further info on Waffen SS books, have a look at the website www.articlesofwar.com. Bob Ruman is a long time military book dealer, whom I highly recommend. He has a whole section on W-SS titles, numbering around 175 titles. Many other German WW2 titles are also available. -- Al

Thanks to all who responded. I appreciate the input and feedback. I'm going to grab a hold of this book. I did obtain the 6 Vol. set of Kursk books. They were highly enjoyable. Outstanding photographs. Very clear with great detail. I'm a fan of the author Remy Spezzano. Puts out quality books. Another that comes to mind is God,Honor,Fatherland. I'm awaiting his book on the Battle of Arnhem. Told it should be available beginning next year. Hopefully.:)

In that same vein, Spezzano co-authored "Platz der Leibstandarte" with George Nipe. Excellent book on the LSSAH at Kharkov in 1943. Heavily illustrated with photos taken in action, it has all sorts of pictures with many different types of armor and personalities that took part in the battle. Hard to beat, it also has 8 full color portraits to go with brief 1 page bios of Hausser, Dietrich, Meyer, Wunsche, Witt, Stadler, Weiser, and Peiper. Highly recommended. -- Al

One of my favourites was 12 years with Hitler: History of 1st Kompanie LAH SS Which, looking at in depth, the founding SS unit is a brilliant and thoughtful book
