I've seen pewter, 1/18 & 1/6 action figures but, I wonder why someone hasn't developed a line of plastic 54mm'ish plastic figures based on Lord of the Rings? Licensing fees? I bet they would be popular. I was watching Return of the King the other day and this question came to me. What say you?

They do have the figures and playsets in plastic in that scale. I have seen some recently at "Big Lots" for good prices.

I see alot of these on ebay all the time it looks like the same kind of deal as with the del prado book/figure http://cgi.ebay.com/LORD-OF-THE-RIN...744624803QQcategoryZ44011QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Check this sellers other iteams he has more. Britains also made some 54mm lord of the rings figures also and they come up on ebay some times there are all kinds of book/figure sets out in europe from firemen to super heros. Some of the companies are del prado, atlas, hachette, and a few others. If anybody has any interest in them i,ll post a link when i come across these other sets on ebay. maybe some of our european members could fill us in on whats available over there in these book/figure sets as there are now many available from midevil to forien legion, soldiers of the british empire, napoleonic marshalls, firemen, ww2, ect. ect.

Yes, all of your examples, I have seen. You miss my meaning. My wonder is, why no playset, like Louis Marx used to do or, BMC or, Barzo? Like green Armymen, sacks of Orcs and other characters. Inexpensive hordes of fun for hours, just add a dirt pile and viola, Middle Earth.

A nice series of playset 54mm plastics would be a lot of fun, you would think they would sell tons of them. Why not I can only guess that P.Jackson has already licensed figures to Games workshop, Play along toys ( which I have many of and cant find anymore, dang it} and all kinds of more expensive pewter ect collectables companies.
I like the just add dirt attitude.Theres a couple tons of gravel piled up by the barn, nice big hill, looks like Surabachi.A couple hundred plastics and a auto airsoft are on tomorrows agenda with my 12 year old.
just for fun I have loaded an image of part of my 25mm LOTR collection.Covers my 6 x 12 table at present.

Ah, someone has too much time on their hands :D . Looks like a way cool set up. Are those metal or, plastic game figures? As to the "just add dirt" attitude, in my youth (I had one of them?) we had a volleyball court in the backyard that had decomposed granite piled on it for years as part of a yard clean-up that only got 1/2 done (lucky for me). On this field, Airfix troops supported by Rocco aromour fought WWII, Britains Swoppets, Marx, Ideal, You Name It from 1/72 to GI Joe all engaged in desperate struggles from the Conquest of Gual to Viet Nam. I had a lot of fun.

Not exactly too much tme, Just a painter for about 25 years that at least used to work an hour or 2 almost every night after the kids were tucked in.
figures are mixed , most metal, still many GW plastics too.
All my toys were either shot, burned ,blown up or plowed under in the garden area as I didnt pick them up when my dad told me too_Once in a while 1/2 an MPC Kraut surfaces.Burning hot wheel tracks dripped molten plastic with a nice war of the worlds Martian heat ray sound effect too. There went my Airfix 1/72 guys.
Heres another image from whats on the table right now.The other was an old one from 2 years ago.Castle still set up the same, just more orcs, trolls x 3 seige towers and of course GROND.
Coming down soon, I'm in the mood for 54mm ACW .
