Further refinement on the face. I added a ribbon to the tricorne, and a sword. I painted in seam lines, added drum cords from copper wire and shaped the shoes. Only need to add the shoe buckles and do the final painting. Then on to the base.
Finally, I've started on the base. A lot of work to saw and trim the resin cast groundwork. The pillar is from a 1/35 diorama resin kit and bricks are from a hobby kit. The fence is from Historex.
I drilled two holes in the base to plug in the figure. Two more holes were drilled to plug in the fence and the base was then painted in basic colours.
I repainted the base, painting the ground work a light slate colour. This seems to set off the yellow uniform of the drummer nicely. The rest of the bits were slightly weathered and I plan to add ivy and other foliage in the background.
Well, it took some time to add the foliage and complete the groundwork. I also finished painting the figure, repaired the drumstick and final painting as begun on the drum itself. The delay was due to the fact that I had to locate the storage boxes where all the foliage are kept and since I keep uncovering various treasure troves of unfinished figures, the missus told me to sort it out once and for all. There was no "or else".
This was a clear directive and I spent a very pleasant few days sorting out numerous boxes of Airfix, Historex, other kits into some semblance of order. Naturally, I had to junk a lot of boxes and packaging just to keep the peace. I really do have quite a lot of stuff, so as I am about to close off some old threads, new ones are being woven in my mind. Rgds Victor
Foliage was sprinkled onto white glue. As expected they helped to create a mess which exacerbated the domestic arrangements for me. I had to take the wife out shopping. Phew!^&grin
I didn't respond then as I was waiting for the oils to dry before continuing to paint the drum all round.
I have finally clipped the drum in place securely now and the piece is finished. A satisfying piece as I got to really improve on an abandoned piece, used up various other bits from other kits, and also used up some diorama stuff gathering dust on the shelves, and survived the annual domestic routine...
