This project started back in 2008, when I learned Atlas were doing a 28/30mm Lucky Luke collection in prepainted lead (with some resin accessories).

For the uninitiated, Lucky Luke is a humorous comics series created by Belgian cartoonist Morris in 1946. The series takes place in the American Old West and features the titular Lucky Luke, a cowboy known as the "man who shoots faster than his shadow", accompanied by his horse Jolly Jumper. Lucky Luke is charged with restoring justice to the Old West by chasing down bandits, the most famous of whom are the Dalton Brothers. The stories are filled with humorous elements parodying the Western genre and feature many famous personalities of the period.

Having learned of these figures, I immediately went to the Editions Atlas site, but alas, it seemed the collection was only available in France. So I went the ebay route and found an auction that had a nice selection of miniatures from the range and figured I'd get these now and depending on how enthused I remained about the project, would subscribe to the collection when it became available over here.

Basically the collection consists (miniatures wise, it also comes with DVD's of the cartoon version) of 50-ish characters, some resin buildingfronts and some metal and/or resin accessories. Now, as is the case with the oop Pixi ranges, Atlas miniatures tend to be smothered in several layers of badly applied thick paint, obliterating all the details. To give you an idea, here are the figures lined up (click to enlarge).

After stripping, repainting turned out to yield some much better looking characterful figures, so I tracked down the rest of the Atlas range, with some spares for conversions, and complemented them with some choice sets from the fully compatible similar Pixi range (although partly OOP and more pricey).

The titular character Lucky Luke and his horse Jolly Jumper:

The repaint next to the original:

And the less than bright companion dog Rantanplan:

And the main baddies, the Dalton brothers:

I have many more from this collection, but I thought I'd post just a few first and see if there's any interest to see more.

Well that was a real treat WK 😊. I would love to see more. The characters are brilliant. It is all new to me but your excellent photos made me smile especially the baddie brothers who couldn't look less like brothers if they tried.

What is it with Belgium and cartoons? Is there anyone in the UK of a certain age who didn't like Tintin?

Best regards

M

Wonderful! I used to love reading these comic books as a child.

Always liked this series, I still have a DVD and some figures in my collection, but not as many as you have more's the pity. Robin.

I only have this . Difficult to find them ( even the Atlas ) at decent price today, because if collectors of figurines are counted by 1000nd, the collectors of comics are by Millions .

And for Pixi, they are only 2 pieces of Lucky Luke left . See https://www.pixifolies.com/categories

I'm lucky enough to have a full set of the Atlas collection, several spares for conversions and a decent number of the pixi figures.

I will post some more pictures later tonight.

Missed the boat on these due to be along time ago, but I reckon I would have been right into collecting this theme. Nice to view, may drag out the couple of items I have and post here. Robin.

And it goes on, with some more repaints:

Ugly Barrow and his wagon (the original model came without a base and had the driver, wagon and mules as separate parts):

The Stagecoach (or "La diligence"), with the famous driver Hank Bully. This one required a few modifications prior to repainting to bring it to the next level. Unlike the original comic and the Pixi version of the stagecoach, the Atlas model comes with only two horses (picture at the bottom of this post), which just won't do. So I cannibalised a second model (I kept the bits I didn't need to use in a future chariot conversion) to make room for two more horses. The extra horses themselves got a slight repositioning of the heads so that they wouldn't look identical and some greenstuff to the manes and tails. I doubt I'll do anything in this project that can top this, I think it will always remain the centerpiece.

Had a good look thru my collection, but failed to locate my small amount of LL. Starting to doubt I even have them, maybe it was a dream. Really like the sculpts on these and really like the stage conversion and wagon. If these were available today I would snap them up and collect the whole series. I will content myself by viewing this excellent thread instead. Hope to see some more photos. Robin.

I see the LL stage coach is still available, but at 650E far too rich for me unfortunately, at 200E it would have been mine. Like the new Smurfs in the tree trunk, a June 2017 release. I have a few hundred Smurfs and some buildings that never see the light of day. Robin.

Oh yes, I also grew up with Lucky Luke (and Asterix). I still enjoy to have a read now and then.

Nice collection and very well done the repaints. You have a great talent.

Thanks a lot for sharing.

Oliver

Thanks for all the comments. I do have a few more repaints to show. I also have some more conversions on the go to expand the collection.

A mixture of Editions Atlas and Pixi Minis figures this time. I got the school set from both ranges. What is a classroom with only two kids after all? Of course, this means I have two teachers now as well, but one will just have to receive a career change, plenty of opportunity in the West after all...

The Editions Atlas figures include a boy with straw hat and apple and a girl with apple. The Pixi set includes two boys. One in a sailor suit with apple and one "bad student" wearing the donkey ears hat. I converted two more from a spare Atlas schoolgirl and paperboy.

I like the standard base you are using for all your conversions. No doubt about you are improving the figures appearances. A real nice collection. Robin.
