The excellent K&C Luftwaffe figures are great for aircraft shelf displays. The 3 figures add great interest to an FW109D shelf display. The late war Dora is considered to be one of the best fighters of WWII.

That looks like the 21st Century Toys 32x 1/32 scale FW-190D9 model :smile2: I have the same model - I collected the 21st Century Toys 1/32, 1/18, and 1/6 scale products for many years before I got into the 1/30 scale premium items. The 32x FW-190D9 is a tad small for the 1/28-1/30 scale K&C figures, however.

Nevertheless, I share your opinion that the K&C Luftwaffe figures are excellent and I’ve gotten a few of them myself for use in some vignette displays with my K&C HE-163, ME-163, and others {sm4}

The Dora was no match for late War Spitfire, Tempest, Mustang C/D and Thunderbolt D/M:salute::

I prefer the 1/32 21st Century models. The cockpits open and the gear can be retracted for in flight display and they are light enough to hang from the ceiling. The detail is better. The same applies to the excellent Hobby Master Diecast F6F and SBD; which look very realistic with 60mm figures from WB and JJD.

I have to agree, particularly with the later 21st Century 32x aircraft like the P-51s, FW-190As, BF-109F/Gs etc. that were very well detailed and superior to the K&C and TGM models, at least in terms of functionality. The big issue with the 21st models was quality control... One had to go through multiple examples to find a flawless model. Thankfully that wasn’t the case with the other brands... I have a Hobby Master Dauntless and F6F Hellcat as well and they are beautiful models. Corgi also did a decent job with their 1/32 aircraft, though the cockpits could have used more detailing... The FOV 1/32 aircraft were all crap save for the P-39.

Did you ever get any of the BBI 1/32 models? They did an SBD Dauntless, F4F Wildcat, and an F-4 Phantom in 1/32 and are often underrated. At the time they were released about 12 years ago, they cost twice as much as the 21st Century models, but were better detailed. The Wildcat and Dauntless are close to Hobby Master in terms of detail and the Phantom is probably one of the best pre-built models in 1/32, IMHO.

The performance of the FW190D and P51D were equivalent in speed, ceiling and weight. The Tempest and P47D were out classed by the superior aerodynamics of the P47D and FW190D at altitude.

The Tempest and P47D were both slower than the P51D or the FW190D. The Tempest AKA Typhoon II was a revised Typhoon to improve high altitude performance with a redesigned wing.

Great photos and excellent dioramas. I agree about the quality of the BBI 1/32 models. You can sometimes find them on Ebay; but they are expensive.

I recently picked up a 21st Century F4U and I am very satisfied with it. I was going to purchase the K&C F4U; but I was disappointed that the canopy did not open.

COMBAT TRIALS AGAINST FW.190 (BMW.801D)

Maximum Speed
38. The Tempest is nearly 50 mph faster at all heights. It is estimated that the Tempest V may be very slightly faster than the new FW.190 (DB.603) up to 20,000 ft.

Climb
39. Except below 5,000 feet the FW.190 (BMW.801D) has a slightly better maximum rate of climb. Because of the Tempest V's speed and clean lines however, the Tempest has a markedly better zoom climb, where the speed is kept high. Against the new FW.190 (DB.603) it is estimated that the Tempest will have a markedly superior climb below 5,000 feet, but a similar maximum climb above that height.

Dive
40. The Tempest pulls away rapidly in a dive from all heights.

Turning Circles
41. There is very little difference in turning circles between the two aircraft. If anything a very slight advantage lies with the Tempest.

Rate of Roll
42. The Tempest V cannot compare with the FW 190.

Conclusions
43. Similar tactics should be used against the FW.190 as used by the Typhoon squadrons, advantage being taken of high speed. Such handling should prove most effective. The Tempest has an exceptional ground height performance even (estimated against the FW.190 (DB.603).

According to the Imperial War Museum, Handbook of Fighter Aircraft, by Francis Crosby the FW190D performance was equal to the P51D and the Spitfire XIV. I have many reference books that concur with this evaluation. I cite the British book as you may consider it more accurate than American or German sources. The Tempest ceiling was 3000 feet less than the FW190D and it weighed 1500 pounds more, as well as being slower.
