My combat veteran friend told me this story. One of his men in his squad transferred to driving the M113 because he was tired of walking. During a mission, a RPG hit his M113 and burned him up. Once they secured the area, they asked for volunteers to pull the guy out. No one volunteered so my friend went to retrieve the body. He said the inside was a terrible mess. After getting the body out, the lieutenant told my friend to resume the patrol. My friend refused and said since he pulled out his friend, he was going to escort him back to base. Nobody said a word.
Btw Bromhead, he served in the Big Red One.
