I know this is old hat to most of you, but I just received the a bunch of K&C Marines, I think they are spectacular, I don't even mind the molded treads on the Amtrak that much. I wish they weren't but no big deal. I am very impressed, the Marines didn't look that good on the computer or in print.
A big "Getting Real" for K&C....Alex...Sorry to bore you

I agree Alex: I don't have many WWll sets but got all the marine sets except flag and wounded sets. Along with Rev War they are my favorites even though I find myself ordering more and more. Yeah, I also had to order more Dragon 1/35 stuff today. Guess that gives me a 20 year time period to finish the kits. Leadmen

The face on the Marine carrying the wounded Marine looked a little weird in print, I almost didn't buy it, but in person it is one of my favorite pieces, go figure.

I can't believe you are still buying 1/35, you know that is my roots, but to be able to buy this stuff, take it out of the box, and display or make a diorama quickly, without the dilemma of building it works for me. You have my respect for still building them, it is nice stuff.

I finally put together my Honour Bound Panthers, I was a little disappointed that the turrets did not fit snug into the body, and I had to make some repairs. The guns would not stay up, and one gun was real loose so I performed major surgery to fix it. I also had to do a body repair on a chip and some paint touch up. See Brad I am very objective. I also reached back and got a K&C M8. I didn't like the raised areas on the body where they painted the stars, otherwise it was very nice. Well that is the "Get Real" report for the day...Alex

Alex, like me, your experience in 1/35 has helped you with being able to take these more expensive figures and not fear modification to either make them appear more real or to repair manufacturing mistakes. Your trial and error period is kinda behind you. I too come from the model making/train layout world and grew tried of spending weeks just to make something look natural and real. It always seemed that I had bit and pieces of something in some stage of completion and when I did finally get something completed, there are the other 100 scattered around still in progress.

I do hesitate occassionally to take a retired K&C into my shop for modifications or repairs, but I do have enough self confidence that I will not completely destroy it. Previous mistakes have shown me where and when to stop before any real damage can be done.

Also, now that I am getting a bit older, my eyes and hands don't respond as they used to. Gawd, I sound like my old grandfather, wait a minute, I AM A GRANDFATHER x 5. Ah crap, I am old.

I made a pretty hairy repair, there was a gouge in the turret by the hatch. I used moldable lead, which is used to weight trains, sculpted it, then painted and weathered it. I was nervous through the whole ordeal. That is the first time I operated on a $105 model. Then I had to shim the Gun barrel so it would stay up, nervous again. I thought this was supposed to be relaxing. The eyes are getting bad, and I am not close to being a Grandfather yet..Alex
