Believe to have just witnessed a spectacular King & Country “feeding frenzy” on e-Bay. Certainly fairly expensive in light of current world-wide economic conditions. A single shelf of predominantly Arnhem ’44 Series sets, without boxes or certificates, and a sign on the shelf offering its entire contents for $1000.00 USD. The auction had 23 bids by 8 bidders, and ended at $4301.00 USD. See e-Bay Item No. 250518525285. As best I can discern the total contents were as follows (anyone else who may have watched this auction, please feel free to correct my analysis):

Set AN01 (1st version) (5 pieces)
Set AN02 (6 pieces)
Set AN03 (2 pieces)
Set AN04 (8 pieces)
Set AN06 (4 pieces)
Set AN07 (4 pieces)
Set AN08 (4 pieces)
Set AN12 (3 pieces)
Set AN13 (2 pieces)
Sets AN14A-C (4 pieces)
Set AN15 (2 sets-8 pieces)
Set WSS 10 (4 pieces)
Set (Unk) Abrams M1A1 Main Battle Tank (3 pieces?)
Set (Unk) White M3 Half-Track (3 pieces?)
Set (Unk) German Truck (3 pieces?)
Sets (Unk) Waffen SS (14 pieces?)

That’s an estimated 77 pieces (including 75mm ammo boxes, segments of walls, etc.) According to my calculations that’s $55.85 per piece. Apparently the winning bidder was basing/rationalizing their bid on the basis of K&C current price schedule for M.I.B. sets. For those of you who followed the auction, perhaps it was the mirrors, but no smoke, that surrounded the display. I’m sure the seller is delighted! For most of you this is probably considered both a bargain and worthy investment. Am personally very pleased that I was able to acquire 8 Arnhem ’44 sets M.I.B. when they were initially issued. Comments are certainly invited.

Well some one just paid 3000 USD for a Trophy Storehouse at the Drift set and 1000 GBP for a single Brunswicker Standard Bearer so there are obviously some of us who are bucking the current recessionI am also glad I paid retail for both these sets a few years ago.

Do you have any stock recommendations?

Hi JAGCDR,

That is a tough question.

I am not sure if you are referring to either the K&C Arnhem 44 series or the Trophy of Wales sets.

In both cases, these are retired sets and rather hard to find.

I am not the winner of the large Arnhem lot vide supra, otherwise there might be duplicates to sell to offset the cost.

That said, I just monitor eBay and Changing Guard Auctions and see what pops up.

You are likely to get much better recommendations from other members of the forum.

Best Wishes and Happy Hunting, Raymond.:)

As Raymond said, the Arnhem sets are hard to find. It's taken me awhile to build what I have, including some of the backlot buildings.

If the buyer of the auction didn't have any before, he now has a great collection and at a great price.
