I'm happy for the fans that they finally win a prize. However, I strongly am against the spending of the owner of Manchester City. 496 million pounds spent on players since 2008. Compare that to the number 2 this year, Manchester United, 124 million pounds spent in the same time.
I'm sorry but, the owner just doesn't deserve this prize.
I disagree.
Unless and until the world of football adopts a US football (American) system to give some kind of level playing field, money will always buy titles. We could discuss the sixties and seventies when it was a little bit fairer, or the 'maximum wage' days when Preston, Blackpool and other 'town' rather than 'city' clubs won things. City won it in 1968 shortly after promotion themselves.
Since the premier league, an institution built on the so called big club greed, only big spending - with astute managment - has won the league. In the late 80's we finished abovet United, still low in the league and their support was weakening.
City have a fanbase of 30,000 in the third tier of English football, top six support, 50th in the leagues. We took more fans away than home fans if the grounds were big enough. We still lost but still followed the team. It was this support and the former Commonwealth Stadium, now the Etihad, that made City and attractive business prosition. With the right investment I am confident the return will come, along with much more fun than many investments. Also, who had even heard of Etihad Airlines and Abu Dhabi as a tourist destination before they bought City. How much would such global publicity be worth? I think they are shrewd businessmen. As for the level of short term investment, it was EUAFA that prompted such level of short term investment as they were closing the door of opportunity. City's revenue and capital worth are both skyrocketing.
The purchase price of Man u's team on Sunday was higher than City's.
Could I suggest you consider the following for example ...

Do you consider Phillips and PSV, Burlessconi and Milan, what about Franco and Real Madrid? I could go on but suspect most people think it is good that a new team are challenging the monopoly of the self perpetuating rich clubs.
In the meantime, I thank his Highness Sheik Mansour for the best team in the land and as for the money, 'frankly Scarlett, I don't give a darn'.
