Probably it's biggest deficiency was the two piece ammunition and low number of rounds carried. The Jagdtiger made use of two piece ammunition as well.

No tank is perfect. Far more important is how it is employed.

..and yes I'd love for one of these to be produced.

I would not mind seeing a JS-2 but I would also like to see early war T-34 and KV-1. So many tanks, so little time.

Just got through watching the Millitary Channel's ten greatest tanks of all-time.

I was a little disappointed to see that they didn't include the JS-2, or the Tiger Tank in their Top 10.

However they did include the T-72, and a Swedish tank (that I can't recall the name right now), that I don't believe should come close to being considered on the list...

TV's sole purpose (unless it's PBS or HBO) is to sell advertising. Whatever it takes to get you to watch that commercial. You have to keep that in mind when watching HC or MC

Hey - if we are talking TANKS - there is only one modern tank that is NUMBER # 1

LEOPARD II

:D :D :D

Just for the sake of discussion, I submit that any weapon that is unproved in combat, no matter how good on the practice fields, can not be regarded as the "best" anything. Only being under fire qualifies a weapon to be graded as good or bad. -- lancer

A well placed rock can kill. A weapon must be proved in combat, in the environs it was designed for, otherwise it is all speculation. -- lancer

"It [JS-2] combined powerful armament, thick armour, low build, with a speed superior to the Tiger and not much less than the Panther. It had more general mobility than any German tank."

Well, THAT should at least provide some impetus to get at least one of these babies made.

A veritable cornucopia of other pics:

Manteuffel first encountered them while in charge of the GD division in May 1944. Together, the GD, TK, & 24PD wiped out a slew of them & he wasn't too impressed at first, but it was because (as when the Tiger I made it's debut) the crews weren't too famililiar with them. Big tank battle down there in Besserabia...500 tanks on both sides. Battle of Targu Frumos.
