I don't collect ACW but The Union Troops are excellent....I really have my eyes on the "Mounted Crusaders".....These are superb releases....WOW.....First Legion Rules

.....So I thought I would chime in now with my own interpretation of their role in the fray.Whether he uses my suggestions is anyone's guess.

Jefman, I will have to bow to your knowledge on the ACW, as you know your stuff there! I was just highlighting how nice it is to have a company so willing to listen to thier customers. As you have probably found out, Matt is a good one to talk to when it comes to the fine details of these ranges. It's rather refreshing.

Amen to that :salute:: I'm not sure anyone can influence WHAT they will do as that's a decision made by Matt and his partners but it's been proven several times over the years that First Legion collectors have contributed to HOW they do it... they really do strive to get it right .. And my friend I agree it's rather refreshing :wink2:
After spending some time digesting the latest news letter this quote stands out just a tad " Napoleon’s Europe in particular will be a big focus for us over the first half of 2011 with not only the remainder of the 92nd Gordon Highlanders but also with another iconic Waterloo release plus the addition of coverage of a NEW BATTLE we haven’t yet visited "....... A NEW BATTLE ^&cool This will cause me to loose sleep I'm not kidding  and THREE new lines ...... man I'm in serious serious trouble .. Regards Gebhard

Noah: I agree and that is why I see Matt being spread so thin. Seems like the Naps, WWII, ACW others all want in on his teams creations. It is hard to be all things to all collectors. For me I collect primarily one war, one side and one branch so I'm selfish. It is not like other makers have not offered up product but I'm so darn discriminating and again after FL's first two ACW rollouts I can't wait for my side with my branch to get some offerings.I firmly believe that once he gets around to it he will do Rebel Cavalry with some depth, decent volume, extreme accuracy and customary high quality. No hokey yellow taxi cab color facings and pipings like what K&C did. No just five offerings of Mosby's Rangers like what CS did. No lack of dismounted skirmishers and horse holders that Frontline omitted. No token rollouts of just two figures the last four years like what WB has done. I want a super comprehensive example of the branch circa July 1863 to fit FL's Gettysburg vision. He did it with exquisite Confederate Infantry. He followed that up with superb dismounted Union Cavalry and I hope soon he does the same with Confederate Cavalry. Yes I will pay $130+ apiece for mounted and probably $60 for dismounted but if the releases match the past then they get top billing in the curio!

Hmmmmm. Maybe Bill will finally see his Peninsular range materialize this year. :smile2:

Hi, Paulo,

You see, with this line of thinking you'll be holding your fire forever as by the time we announce the new ranges, we'll also announce that more new ranges are coming! So, in theory, you could hold your fire forever waiting on an endless cycle of new things coming and the world may pass you by! ^&grin (though, you'll be richer for it!)

Actually, having looked at your list, I think I forgot a new range (not one on your list, but your list reminded me of something I forgot that we have in our pocket)...So much going on, even I have trouble keeping track of it!

Best,

Matt

Hi Matt,
I guess you're right! Our soccer player Ronaldo once said: «I am not scoring any goals right now, but I'm not worried, they are like Ketchup, once I start scoring they'll never end», so with me the Ketchup will surely be coming out soon... Plus I know you'll soon have other news for us^&grin...
That said I already have made my mind up on some Crusaders/Mameluks, they look irresistible... I knew the mounted ones would also be a thing of beauty...

Regards,
Paulo

P.S.
I now have a Crusades list in my mind:wink2:...

MD,
I was thinking the same thing , Its looking pretty good for Bill . With quotes like these "another iconic Waterloo release" and " a new Battle we haven't visited yet " .There is a chance our good mate Bill could see the 95th and a Peninsula battle released in shortly . If this is the case I would be happy for him but I must say a Mounted Blücherfigure would be fantastic and I still have the hope to one day see First Legion produce one :wink2:Well we can dream can't we.....Regards Gebhard

Hey do you know something ?? Lets have it man ,,, no time to tease is it to be Caesar vs Pompey ??? Is it Civil War ???

Wish I had some Intel on what was coming out but I'm afraid I'm as much in the dark as everyone else. I guess I'm just hopeful that we will see some Romans, republic or imperial ill take anything at this point.

Jefman, I agree with you 100%. I too, collect only one war, that being the AWI, so I can appreciate your 'quest' to find the best figures for your favorite period. I have found that First Legion fit the bill more than anyone else. It is as you say, the depth of the releases, high quality and historical accuracy that makes them the best in my opinion. If you want comprehensive, you've got the right company.

You know I was so busy gawking at the photos I initially glossed right over the most important text (to me at least):

Well guys I am not going to post it all just the introduction and a couple of interesting shots

"........To set the tone for what is to come this year, not only will we launch three wonderful new figure ranges (subsets of current ranges don’t count!), but we’ll also continue to expand our existing ranges with releases for each and every one of them coming over the next six months. Napoleon’s Europe in particular will be a big focus for us over the first half of 2011 with not only the remainder of the 92nd Gordon Highlanders but also with another iconic Waterloo release plus the addition of coverage of a new battle we haven’t yet visited. So expect to receive a pretty continuous barrage of both newsletters and announcements on our website as 2011 progresses. :wink2::(

Now of course I am thrilled to here about the Gordons but what really revved my engine was the "another iconic Waterloo release". Now could that just mean, dare I hope, is it just possible, be still my heart, but ..... might that just FINALLY refer to the lads in green?!?

Well we all know how Matt can be with his "clues" but I am going to ramp up my savings expectations, just in case. Of course with my luck it will be the Dutch but maybe, just maybe.........

As to the "new battle", thanks much for thinking of me mates but alas I am afraid Matt is more likely to go with one of his favorite battles before getting to the Peninsula. So that would suggest something else on the continent like, Dresden, Aspern-Essling or Wagram. So ..... I suspect we are more likely to see "white" before he gets to my favorite area.:wink2::( Oh well, if he gets the "iconic" part right, I am likely to forgive him, at least for a while. FWIW Geb, I do hope you get your mounted Blucher.

Noah: I actually believe that collectors once they get what they want can settle into a "What have you done for us lately" mode. I think WB, Frontline and CS do a good job on the ACW. Conte is good but they seem to have an aversion to cavalry. Most makers get pushed and pulled in other directions like WW I & II,Naps, ACW, Zulu yes AWI plus other conflicts. I have been able to accumalate a portion of Guard Corps Ltd. dismounted Rebel cavalry with great help from frequent Treefrog contributor Gideon Rettich. This line was made by two New York City area partners in the 1990's. They really made a lot of this branch both Union and Confederate in a gloss finish back then. My point is if a manufacturer wants to concentrate on say two or three different lines they can bring lots of one conflict's figures to market. But the bottom line is what the market bears: For example if Naps sell well then they are making Naps.If people desire quality and are willing to pay for it then be accomodating. No sense making a line that does not sell well or that the inventory sits. It is supply and demand driven and any manufacturer that survives the test of time has earned their keep in this terrific hobby of ours. I think FL has what it takes and that is why they get those extra prices at market. The work commands a premium. But there is lots of worthy competition and the net winner in that arrangement is us collectors.

I would be Happy with any of the Battles that Bill has mentioned but I have my fingers crossed for Leipzig :wink2: Just has a host of my favorites there . Of course we can use the figures to portray any Battle we choose to as long as we have all the players we need :salute:: Regards Gebhard

Exactly so; that is why I am pretty much OK with Waterloo releases. Yes I have to overlook some small (to me) uniform incongruities that presents but it is better than not having the players at all.:wink2:
