Marlborough was one of the first makers that I tackled when trying to match up loose figures with the correct boxes. These guys are the stragglers for which no box exists. Trying to figure out who they are and whether or not they belong together. The lancers, for example. There are two officers that are similar, but, with notable variations. One has a shorter coat, no tail from his headdress and a red nipple on top. The other has a gold pointed top to his headdress and is also wearing gauntlets. They are similar to the Governor General's Bodyguards I have from Nickolson. But, those have completely different headdresses. Any help is greatly appreciated. And, for the Marlborough Delhi Durbar fans, here's a link to the photo journal I've started to commemorate Dave's collection. There's a few M and MF series sets in there, but, the lion's share is D.

I looked in my Marlborough catalogues. First picture: D57 Governor General's Bodyguard (6pc) I don't know who the marching Officer represents - at a guess he is from D60 Golden Gun of Baroda, the catalogue picture isn't clear enough to tell for sure. >Edit: Just looked through the Flickr album. The Golden Gun set does have 5 marching men as an escort, looks like the Officer's missing from your pictured set. He marches in front of the bullocks in the catalogue picture. Next is D58 the Dancing Horse of Bombay. (There is also another dancing horse, D142 Alwar State's, but different pose and paint.) Then you have MF50 General and staff. It represents Sir Garnet Wolseley, Lt-Col Evelyn Wood, and Redvers Buller, but Marlborough helpfully points out that it could be used as any British General and his staff in the late 1800s. The Fire Eater is (oddly) part of set D8B Fruit and Vegetable Seller. No luck with IDing that last seated fellow. He might be part of an elephant set.

Mike, you are a wealth of knowledge. Thank you. That's unfortunate if the fire breather goes with D8/B. That set is already out the door. I might be able to figure out who it was. I'd like to get it to him so the set is complete. I'm trying to keep the integrity of complete sets. Would you happen to know if there was a set that was comprised of 10 Grenadier Guards? These guys were left over. I've seen sets of 6 with one being a flagbearer. But, there are no flagbearers to be found.

I know you guys have been sitting on pins and needles to find out what happened. So, let me say that there is success and tragedy. I was able to track down the gentleman who received the Fruit and Vegetable Seller set and the fire breather will be reunited. However, the officer that belongs with the Golden Gun of Baroda is going to have to go it solo. I believe I sold that set at the MFCA and there is no record of who got it. So, at this point, the only Marlborough figure left that has not been identified (besides the Grenadier Guards receiving a specific set number) is this guy.

Hi, I do not believe this is a Marlborough figure. It does not bear any resemblance to any Marlborough Durbar figures I am aware of, and from the photos it does not have the same level of detail or quality of finish as Marlborough figures.

I considered that possibility. But, that leaves me with a real mystery here. I'm pretty sure the only other Durbar figures I have are from Britains and he looks even less like he comes from that line of toy soldiers.
