hi all, i was wondering if any of you ever had the wwii or apache fort playsets from marx??, those were the best, esp. the wwii soldiers, the detail and sculpting, my favorite has to be the stretcher guys, and the american wounded soldier that's crawling on ground, if andy were to mold a metal series from those guys i'd buy everyone of them!!!...sammy

I had the Civil War set, my older brother had the WWII set and my younger brother had the Fort Apache set. We also had the Alamo set and Revolutionary War set.

All the sets were given away by my parents when they sold the house we grew up in.

These sets were great to play with, I miss having them. Although I have resisted the urge to buy them again.

Yes, they were very interesting, and today they are Extremely Collectible!

Actually, I would wonder if any one on this board did NOT own one of the Marx sets as a kid. My brother and I would get the Marx Battleground set or Navarone set about every other year. Loved the Sears catalog! I had the Navarone twice, Battleground at least 3 times. One year I got the dinosaur one - just for a change of pace. Then there were the Star Wars years......

I can't imagine being where I am now vis a via toy soldier collecting without those Marx sets. And then there was the day I discovered Airfix's 1/32 scale sets at the hobby shop at the top of the mall.

Good times.

I HAD the Civil War set, the construction set, and the farm set. Many elements of the old sets are available on Ebay or are being reproduced by The Hobby Bunker and Classic Toy Soldiers.

I have most of what was in the Civil War set that I had in 1961. Some original, but most reproduced.

My brother and I shared a Knight/ Castle set. My son has it now. Wonder if I can get it back?

Like many (most) of you, I also had several Marx Playsets when I was a kid. Between my brother and I we had:

2 Alamos (Walt Disney & 1960 versions)
Battleground
Ft. Apache
Blue & Gray
Wagon Train
Armed Forces Training Center
Cape Canaveral
Miniature Knights and Castles

and untold bags of figures and single figures including a wide variety of 6" guys.

Many of their figures are still some of the best sculpted bar none.. Certainly not all, but many of them... IMHO...

We did the same in my family..At Christmas, each of us got a different version of the Marx playsets. I got Fort Apache ,my brothers recieved the ACW and WW2 sets. My mom would always buy us different versions of whatever was hot for toys each year.........Michael
