A couple of weeks ago I decided I should clean my basement and organize/display my collection. Today I made a shelf display of my Wagon Train Dreamwish playset. The shelf is only 2 ft by 4ft and I couldn't set the whole thing up...but what fit in the space is cool.

Mr Baker
Another totally grrooovey set up.
Thanks for posting !

Marx really was a good outfit! You have a knack for displaying the old sets very nicely. You just want to be 10 again and play with that stuff :)

This actually is a set that has very few unaltered Marx pieces in it. If you look, you'll see the Indians are mainly Britains Deetail or conversions of figures by various makers. There are Airfix and Dulcop and Marx and Rubernstein and some Starlux as well. Marx never offered the 60 mm wagons in these colors, though the original pictures in the 1959 Sears Catalog showed them like these. There are actually 3 different Seth Adams figures there...the original, a mounted with his left hand raised, and a standing version where he is firing a rifle from the waist. I also have a Nostalgia Toy Replica Box for the Series 5000 set. Somewhere I have a mounted Flint McCullough firing pose to add in. There is also a fifth wagon and several dozen more Indians including lots of mounted figures. I guess I'll have them attacking my Dreamwish Fort Apache.

At one time, on a previous computer, I had a bookmarked website that displayed many of your Play Set Ups.
Can you make that link available again, please ?

Thank you, Joe.
It has expanded since I last looked at your website.

I have begun an Alamo, but have used all my Conte Mexican Army.
I might get more at the Texas Show.

Did you paint the Britains Indians a Marx-like yellow? If so, great idea. If not, it's still a great idea. Very clever. What about Airfix? Those were almost the same. Again, neat pictures and creations.

Hey Jay,
That's exactly what I did. I put Marx bases on the Deetail figures and painted them in the Marx colors. I also converted a bunch as well. Once upon a time, painting over a two dollar factory painted Britains figure would have given me pause. Now with new issue figures going for a buck and a quarter or more each, it doesn't bother me a bit. And sometimes you can get a great deal on a bunch of Deetail figures on eBay.
I've done the same thing with figures by all sorts of maufacturers, including Airfix. Check out these pages to see better shots of some of the figures.

Very nice indeed. Do you spray paint o brush the colors on? Any name brand paints? I've got a few Britains I'd sacrifice for that idea.

Usually I use a brush. I get the shade of color I want that way. I've done spray paint but the figures came out a little too shiny. Now I brush on and cover with a clear matte spray.

Thanks for your help. I'll give it a try. They do look good. Clever idea. Lot of possibilities. I've always painted up, that is, try to paint the figures with more detail, but painting down is interesting. I like the idea of solid color Britains. As it is, the DSG did that a few years ago with the earlier Herald sets in a solid color, but they were all dark blue.

About five years ago, I painted more than 100 Marines and GIs, from many various makers, the same mustard yellow color. More than half were converts.
The same was done with germans, except in a slightly dark gray.
The result was excellent. Size differences are not noticable. It is a brushed color.
Spray paint is also too shiny for my use. Mr Baker gave me that suggestion., too.
