Welcome to our May 2026 Aircraft newsletter featuring a whole batch of very exciting new planes.

All our hand carved Mahogany aircraft take in the region of 250 days to manufacture plus many more hours of drying time. For this reason we only make small numbers of each model and every aircraft is a limited edition masterpiece.
For those of you who wish to spread your budget when buying our aircraft, please note we do accept stage payments where you can spread the cost over several months. If you require further details of any of the aircraft in today's newsletter, please email info@jumpthegunn.co.uk and ask for a quote.

A big thank you to Mark Dyer with his assistance in the research and development of these models, it really has been invaluable.

All our aircraft now come with their own stands and can be displayed in flying mode if required.

Please note the Gunn Club discount has now been amended to 10% for the foreseeable future, however we reserve the right to amend this at any time should circumstances change. To claim your 10% Club discount, simply enter the word 'discount' at checkout in the coupon box to receive this offer.

WOW458 Halberstadt CL.1V Black & White Stripes
Flown by Lt. Ebel of Schlasta 21

The Halberstadt CL.IV was one of the most effective ground attack aircraft of World War I, relying on its good manoeuvrability to avoid ground fire. It appeared on the Western Front towards the end of the German offensives in 1918. Flights of four to six aircraft flew close support missions, at an altitude of less than one hundred feet, suppressing enemy infantry and artillery fire just ahead of the advancing German troops. After these late German offensives stalled, Halberstadt CL.IVs were used to disrupt advancing Allied offensives by striking at enemy troop assembly points, and night sorties were also made against Allied airfields.

Towards the end of the war, on bright, moonlit nights, CL.IV squadrons attempted to intercept and destroy Allied bombers as they returned from their missions.

Oberleutnant (and later Hauptmann) Hans Ebel was a notable German WW I ace and commander (Staffelführer) of Schlasta 21 (Schlachtstaffel 21), a specialized ground-attack "battle flight" unit. He flew the robust Halberstadt CL.IV. in a Zebra Scheme: Ebel's specific aircraft is legendary among aviation historians for its striking black-and-white zebra-striped camouflage on the fuselage, tail, and wheel covers. Ebel flew this aircraft out of Seringes airfield, France, in July 1918.

This aircraft is limited to 5 in number worldwide.

The TG/JJD figures and accessories shown are for scale comparison purposes only and are not included with the model.

WOW724 Fl 282 Kolibri (Grey]

The Flettner Fl 282 Kolibri (Hummingbird) was a WW2 German intermeshing rotor helicopter, and the first mass-produced helicopter in history. Designed by Anton Flettner, the twin contra-rotating, intermeshing blades eliminated the need for a tail rotor, making it highly stable and manoeuvrable. Developed as an observation and reconnaissance craft, the Fl 282 was used effectively by the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) for convoy protection and artillery spotting.

Intended roles of Fl 282 included ferrying items between ships and reconnaissance. However, as the war progressed, the Luftwaffe began considering converting the Fl 282 for battlefield use. Towards the end of WW2 most of the surviving Fl 282s were stationed at Rangsdporf, in their role as artillery spotters, but gradually fell victim to Soviet fighters and anti-aircraft fire.

Only around 24 to 30 prototypes and production models were built before Allied bombing of the BMW Munich plant halted production. Only a single intact example survives today.

The McDonnell F2H Banshee

The McDonnell F2H Banshee was an American, twin-engine, onboard fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft. The flight of the prototype took place on January 11, 1947, and the machine entered service from 1948. Together with the F9F Panther, was the US Navy's primary deck fighter during the Korean War. A total of nine versions of this aircraft were created, of which only two (F2H-2P and F2H-3P - both versions are photographic reconnaissance aircraft) performed different tasks than fighter or bombing.

The F2H Banshee (often called the "Big Banjo") was a major all-weather radar interceptor single-seat carrier-based jet fighter. It was widely operated by the United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, and served as the only jet fighter ever deployed by the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) between 1955 and 1962. The F2H Banshee flew critical close-air support, tactical strike, reconnaissance, and long-range bomber escort missions over North Korea before being struck from service records late in the 1950s. In total, 895 F2Hs were built.

WOW692. Banshee 214 USN. USS Coral Sea 1954.
Banshee 214 WAS assigned to United States Navy Fighter Squadron 62 ( VF-62 Gladiators), while deployed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) in 1954.

The famous pilot incident involving a McDonnell F2H Banshee 214 occurred when U.S. Navy Lieutenant JG J. S. Bailey, mistakenly landed his jet on the wrong aircraft carrier!

On March 12th 1952, while operating during the Korean War, Lt. JG Bailey of squadron VF-871 lost his bearings and landed his F2H-2 Banshee on the flight deck of the USS Essex (CV-9) instead of his own assigned carrier USS Coral Sea.

Following Navy tradition for pilots who committed the blunder of landing on the wrong ship, the crew of the USS Essex painted mocking graffiti all over the aircraft before returning it. The graffiti prominently included the phrase "Must Be Air Force" across the fuselage, a playful insult suggesting the pilot lacked the navigation skills expected of a naval aviator!
This 1/30 scale model limited to 2 in number.

South Korea 1952
