Why aye man the Scribbler's at it again !

Another one of Paul's 3D prints, designed by himself from a suggestion or two by me for a Roman Barracks that once painted will fit in with JJD previous Wooden Roman Fort, Gate and Walls releases.
Due to size constraints it is only the Centurion's quarters and Four barrack rooms.
A full Century's barrack's building would be twice the length, with a further 4-6 rooms with each room holding eight men.
This type of Barrack building would mostly be used for housing Infantry or Naval personnel as Cavalry barrack blocks tend to be of a different design.
Not primed and painted yet and lack of spare time at present with other projects competing for the time means it will be a while before I get around to it, but thought a few other Roman fans might like to see it.

This is a perfect size and once painted, a worthy scenic piece. Looking to get some of those new mounted Roman’s John is doing to supplement the ones here, especially the one that appears to be a commander. Robin.

Really great, reminds me of some of the ruins and reconstructions i have seen at Caerlion, Hadrian's Wall and Arebia.

Absolutely agree Robin. JJD have some great future releases in the works ! Looking forward to their release, though not to looking at the bank balance afterwards ! :wink2::tongue:

Cracker of a building. I look forward to seeing your brushwork when you paint the Roman Barracks.

It is a cracker of a building and one i will need to invest in . I have the JJD fort as well as the k n C one. Like Robin said, cant wait for the new mounted Romans

Looks outstanding, does it have a complete back wall as well, or is it just the front faing part?

Looks quality

Cheers. Paul can print what you like. I've bought facades and whole buildings from him. Just tell him what you want.

Thank you very much for the reply, have been looking at his stuff for a while and will probably buy something in the Eastern WW2 range.

Does the Roman barracks have a complete back to the building or are you planning to either have it as a backdrop to your diorama or get the 3D mould process flipped so you can have a mirror block behind?

The one I have ordered from Paul has back and sides and to the size I required, and not an exact scale model, such as most manufacturers buildings are also not.
Also as said before this building isn't a complete barracks, mine having just enough rooms for thirty two men and the Centurion as to have one to hold the eighty troops I'd need to have another six rooms, space for which I don't have the room for, nor feel the need to have.
To have that, would mean a model twice as long and also would be a little wider. I based it's look and construction to be similar to the reconstructions at The Lunt Roman Fort, from which as you may of read in his notes of the Roman Fort gateway John drew inspiration for his creations from.
As we know from excavations, Roman Forts were not exact duplicates wherever they were, as they took local building materials and many other factors into account and new discoveries can sometimes change what had previously been thought of that which may have been to something else entirely.
if I had wanted this time to have similar to another area it'd be slightly different also you have to decide at least roughly what sort of era you are wanting to portray.
The Roman Watchtower I had Paul print for me a while back, mine is different in style to ones who's remains have been found in this country as opposed to ones from say the German Limes or ones from the Danube frontier region.

Thought i would share a picture of a Watchtower i have.
Plus a picture of the Gate at Galava Fort, managed by The National Trust, at Ambleside in the English Lake Distict. It is a reconstruction of the fort entrance, Porta Principalis, on the Via Prinipalis. I like the open rear and i am looking through the information i have to get a 3D model done, including some of the surounding walls. I am currently looking through information to calculate the dimensions, etc. Would appreciate if anyone has any information on these gates?

View of the rear of the Roman Barracks.
Painting is progressing with the Roman Barracks block with correcting some painting errors where my brush wandered from the stone courses onto the wood ! And then dry brushing yet to be done.

Looks like an excellent job, think you will have a stunning diorama, look forward to seeing the end result.

I'd like to say thanks for sharing, appreciate it, know others do as well.

No matter how many times he counted Marcus always came up one Turnip short !

Very nice. I do love the extra detail you apply when taking the scene. Thank you.

Great scene Steve, the barracks look great

Thanks Grey Heron and Jason ! :salute::
(Bellarus) Paul's 3D prints really set the scene and help whatever little story I'm trying to portray much more than my limited modelling skills would of ever attained before I think.

It's the whole effect that works. Your modeling, the great figures and then the prints to complete that effect. Well done! Hope to see more, particularly Roman, dios.
