Caught the last bit of a doc on Fox yesterday....as usual when they show something of interest they do not repeat it like the rubbish doc's they never stop repeating....The bit I saw was about a ball turret gunner who saved the life of a badly wounded waist gunner (I think) and put out a fire on the aircraft with the only fluid available...wee....he was awarded the MOH and the big wigs from Washington and the USAAF all turned up for a big parade to present him with his Medal.....he did not show.......turned out he was in the kitchen peeling spuds....doing KP for being mischievous.....he was a bit of a maverick apparently and always in strife according to the story...I thought the story was a bit different and amusing....he did four more missions and was then sent home to sell war bonds.....a lot of those poor buggers in ball turrets were trapped in the turret and never had a chance to bail out when their B17s were hit...they must have been brave men all......TomB
