I saw a bit of it. Brooks is a mixed bag in my opinion. Movies like "Young Frankenstein" and "Blazing Saddles" were great. The others not so much. Many were downright awful.
He was a combat engineer throughout the European Theatre. Came ashore a couple of days after D-Day and was there until VE Day. I hope he lives as long as he wants!

I would add his original "The Producers" to the list of his great movies. And his remake of "To Be or Not To Be" was good, as was "High Anxiety" as a spoof of Hitchcock's movies.
But yeah, in some of his other movies, the humor just declines into broad ethnic and dick jokes. I think "Spaceballs" fell into that category. It was amusing enough, but he was hitting us over the head with the jokes.
I also remember his short-lived sitcom spoof of Robin Hood, called "When Things Were Rotten". That was funny, but some of the jokes were too esoteric, and it didn't last a season. It was like "Police Squad!" in that regard.
