The last surviving crew member of the Memphis Belle, Robert Hanson, has died. Some people said that the movie lacked the drama of the larger than life events that surrounded the Flying Fortress crew over the skies of Europe.

I am not completely sure this is accurate, but, I remember a recent television news report that the "Memphis Belle" was removed from its museum (don't recall where that is) for repairs from damaged caused by people who have no respect for history or the men who sacrified for us. If someone has any additional information, please add it to this thread. I am sure that the men who flew the "Belle" would not like what some jerk or jerks have done. Maybe we can honor them by atleast discussing it and letting others know of the problem with those who do not respect valor and sacrifice. Just a personal opinion. Michael;)

The "Memphis Belle" was removed from Memphis, TN last week by the USAF it never was in museum in Memphis. It was not damaged by people who had no respect for history or the men who sacrified for us. It was always fenced so the public could not damage it but was out in the open. A group got togeather and raised funds to have it moved out of the weather and later on to a hanger at the old Navy Memphis Air Base for safe keeping. We could not raise the funds to restore the plane to what it should be.
There is alot more to this story but it would not be in good taste for me to put in writing.

Sounds like they are taking positive steps to keep the aircraft preserved for the future. If anyone ever gets to Tucson AZ they have a really awesome Aircraft Museum. They have a ton of WWII aircraft including a really beautiful B29. Its worth a visit if you are in the area.
