Im curious to see whats more popular plastic or metal. i vote both

My collection is overwhelming metal (Metal-excellent! Zeer, zeer, zeer, doodley, doodley, doodley, raow, raow, raow, raow, raow! Sorry, that was some forum air-guitaring), I have some Eyes Right Guardsmen and mounted Life Guards, and some of the Danish Guardsmen with sentry hut, and I think a Malleable Mouldings Imperial German cuirassier (maybe he's supposed to be Swedish, I can't remember).

I also painted Airfix Napoleonics, back in the day, but that was an extension of my scale modeling, and I still think of plastic that way. That is, if I'm going to buy something in plastic, it's definitely a kit (air, armor, ship, eg), that I will approach as a scale model and build and paint in that fashion.

Not saying one's better than the other.

Prost!

Hi ModernReb,

Welcome to the forum! My collection is composed almost entirely of metal figures.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Until a week a ago my collection was entirely plastic( all thats affordable for a teenager:mad:). Last week I took advantage of the conte sale and bought the whole pirate range and a couple ranger sets.:D

I agree with metal because it has more detail:D and plastic has less detail and it is ok:(. So I am glad King & Country and most other companies uses metal.

I have both and to date, metal has greater detail. That could be changing soon though;):D

I collect metal only since I enjoy the heft and feel of cold metal. Did not like plastic toys as a child either.

greetings- i have both in my collection. however, all of the plastic soldiers are from my childhood. these are the classic marx civil war, ww2 and such. i also still have many timpo and britain swoppets and herald civil war figures. all my adult collecting has been in metal such as britains, k&c, jj, somerset, and some others as well. what an addiction! i love it! besr regards, lancer

I do both. Many metals are gorgeous and have collector value, but I also enjoy good plastic figures. Another plus is that it's a lot cheaper to do conversions and customs on plastic.

I collect metal painted figures only - mainly cos I've never been all that good with the paintbrush. Those Conte Spartans look great though and I've been thinking about getting the wife to advertise for someone in China to do them more justice than I can.

Cheers

Certainly what I did, except for the China part. I think they were make an excellent addition to the ranks of the metal Spartans that I can no longer fill with thier metal brothers.

I collect both. I been buying more metal lately but I also buy quality plastic figures. Leadmen

My collection is primarily metal but I do have a couple of Herald plastics thrown into the mix.

I use to only collect Britains Deetail WW2 Plastic. But now I collect everthing both plastic and metal, as long as it is WW2 scale 1:32 (54mm), and it looks nice, and I can afford it.

I collect only painted metal in 54mm/60mm scales but have unpainted metal in 25mm.No plastic.

I used to collect soft plastics. Quite a large number of them became brittle. This turned me off and I now focus on hard polystyrene plastics or metals.

In recent times I have been painting tssd and conte figures,,but came across a half dozen old britains line inf I had parted and prepared up,now completing the restoration.

I collect both... but Plastics allways come 1st.
Pre-Painted Metals are just used as a way to supplement my collection.
I also like Metal Kits....:D

It can be fun to combine the type media to get the figures you need. I have been amassing figures from Conte (metal and plastic), ONTC (painted and unpainted kits) and some recent Britains, all to get the various poses that I want. Fortunately, with Ken Osen doing the sculpting for all of these the figures and parts will work well together. We seem to have a couple major "types" on this board, the true collector ("don't change anything, keep the box") and the bunch of us who are willing to mess up the collector value by changing and/or repainting to meet our vision of what we need.
