Question to all our Australian friends. ^&confuse
I just found this lighthearted, but very good series on NETFLIX.

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries revolves around the personal and professional life of Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis), a glamorous private detective in late 1920s Melbourne, Australia.

If anyone from Australia has seen the show, is the "jargon" and "period style" portrayed in the episodes accurate or made up for US or other viewing audiences?
Some may remember the thread in which I had never heard of the word "GOBSMACKED" and you fine gents gave me a introduction to the language down under?

Really enjoying this series.

Larry,

It was made by our national broadcaster and sticks very close to the late 1920's period in Melbourne regarding the houses, fashions and motor vehicles. It is very much of the early post First World War era Australia with references to the lead detective serving in the AIF and Phryne's experiences in pre-war France popping up in several episodes. Gangs, communists, corruption, trouble on the wharves and the like of the period appear in various episodes.

As long as they haven't dubbed the version they are showing you over there in the US then I would say that the language, from what I remember, is pretty close to that era. Bear in mind that Australia's language and culture at the time were still very much those of the British Empire.

It was a fun series.

I’ve found there are a lot of very good Australian series on the streaming sites. I particularly like Secret City on Netflix.

Watched an episode last night. Thought it was okay. But 5 min of programming followed by 5 min of commercials the whole 1.5 hr show too frustrating, even with fast fwd. Deleted the rest of the episodes. Chris
