Missing Airliner (3 Viewers)

CNN.....mostly entertainment....some news......a lot of very hot female hosts and journalists (sorry if that is politically incorrect).
They played this story to ad nauseum!

ON the front page of MSN today it discussed statistics of flying.

http://news.msn.com/world/will-flight-370-change-the-future-of-flying

In 2013 "only"... (if that is really a proper use of the word here) ... 210 people were killed in commercial aviation.
For context, 3 billion people flew safely in 2013, traveling on 36.4 million flights.

However this debacle has highlighted 6 or more changes that need to be made to the Airline Industry .... including NOT to be able to lose contact with the airplane and replacing the BLACKBOX with a technology of streaming live data.

The only one item that was not mentioned is the .... Pilot and Copilot sanity safety check. Which I have noticed everyone (government / airlines / etc) is very afraid to discuss, even though it appears more and more likely that this was the air crew's direct action and intent.

I have millions of miles in the air and until NOW I felt pretty safe ... given the above numbers.
But thank goodness that my frequent business flying days are over.

There is a book called. "The Science of Fear." One really interesting part is that it claims we miscount the 9/11 disaster by just over 1500 lives. These are the increased traffic fatalities that year. Essentially, you could look at the 20 years before 9/11 and the 5 or more years after 9/11 and traffic fatalities follow a fairly predictable and stable curve when accounting for the increases in people on the road. With one exception. In the 12 months after 9/11 there is a huge spike that does not appear anywhere else in the curve. An extra 1500 people died because people were afraid to fly.

The above is a paraphrase of a much more elaborate and nuanced analysis, but for me it is pretty compelling.
