I bought this set in the late 70s in Boston. I was going to paint the myself, but kept putting it off!
I have been in a “medieval surge” recently so decided to get these painted. I have been using a painting comoany in Sri Lanka called Fernando Enterprises to paint “flat” airplane castings. So decided to give them a shot with these figures.
These figures are made of hard plastic and they originally came inside Mokarex Coffee cans from the 49s until the esrly 60s . This chess set must have been a recast set.
The conflict represents a little known War of the Publuc Weal in 1465 berween King Louis XI and Charles “The Bold”. The respective “queens” and the knights are also historic personalities. Curious chouce of court jesters for the bishops! Jaja! And I just love the men at arms pawns.
