Monogram WW ONE diorama (1 Viewer)

Actually, that's by Strombecker, part of the series they made of diorama sets. There's also a Yorktown set, with a cannon and Washington touching off the first shot; an Iwo Jima set; and a Civil War set, including a mounted Federal cavalryman. I'd have to look it up, to see if there's a connection between Strombecker and Monogram.

Your set is the "Battle of Liege 1914-German Staff Officers Meeting". I have a couple of those, and I've collected about 8 or 9 of the Yorktown sets, to have a battery of artillery.

The figures were cast in a strange alloy, not white metal, ie, not a tin/lead/antimony alloy, but an alloy containing either zinc, aluminum or magnesium. They have a distinctive feel, light for their size, and they clink when knocked together or tapped with a piece of metal.

They're actually pretty well done, considering when they were produced. Yours look pretty good, Scott!

Prost!

The two companies did get together. Might have been the metal expertise.

Someone gave me this set. I can and could paint waaaayyyy better than this . I have no idea what I did with my original set, maybe I sold it 40 years ago. I still have the crew from the Yorktown set and the barrel for the cannon. The metal was so stiff you couldn't drill it but parts broke off like the axles of the cannon. I had all 4 sets but only one Union infantryman left that I painted. I just sold the US Marines a few weeks ago. They were about a dollar back in the 60s.

I have never seen any of these sets done by anyone but Strombecker.
Monogram was involved with the Merite line for some time though.

I would like to see the original packaging from Monogram.

Jogging my memory! Monogram DID have the single figure line in the 60s maybe 70s. I had most of them. The diorama series was Strombecker. Thanks. If I have to relist the set I'll change the listing.

Made me wonder, too. I have a bunch of the Monogram Roger's Ranger figures, and the South Carolina regiment figure.

Those were really well done kits, especially for the time. I still have the bases, the labels, and the little tubes of glue that they included in each box.

Prost!
