More Cowboys and Native Americans (1 Viewer)

If you buy any job-lots of damaged figures which include any Native American figures - chances are that you will get some of these Crescent Toy figures - complete with tomahawk at the ready ( or not - depending on the damage!). Crescent must have made him in their thousands!

A bit scarcer - is my latest cowboy figure. Another Crescent, he's the first of his type for me - whereas I have no less than 9 of the Tomahawk toting guys.

I was lucky with this lot though - as the Native Americans only had damage to their head feathers, this time - which just involved some epoxy putty repairs.

The cowboy just had the end of his rifle missing - which merely involved drilling into the stump of his hand - and glueing in a cut piece of paper-clip ( what would I do without them), to replace the missing end of barrel. I'm constantly amazed that this simple to fix fault - causes the piece to be junked.

From repairs on - it's just a re-paint, and here you can really have some fun with decoration on these type of figures. There's no "uniform" just do whatever you fancy (within reason). :D

Here's a couple of pics of my latest four - below.

I like the "embroidery" and the fringe on your cowpoke's shirt, that's a nice touch!

Prost!

Upon putting my latest three completed braves back into the cabinet - I did a recount - and found that I had just EIGHT of these braves - and not the NINE I bragged about. :redface2:

So I thought I would do a pic to show them all. I have added in a somewhat unfortunate Cowboy who had strayed into their hunting ground in error - and also the throb of the drum from a musician - and the Witch Doctor of course (all Crescent except for the Timpo cowboy and tree, just to make the scene.

All of these figures now in my collection have been repaired and repainted in some way. jb

I've had these three braves on the back-burner for quite some time - so thought it was about time I completed them.

The two firing off arrows are by Timpo (1950's). Both were a bit "scuffy" paintwise and both had lost their wire-strung bows, which were also very mis-shapen when found. Neither could stand up either ( which is odd for a kneeling figure). I think both had been dropped at some time in the past - as their bases were very bowed. They wobbled and then fell over - a lot.

So............repairs called for. I always like my figures to stand up first - so I gave them both bases ( including the standing figure who - as you may be able to make out - already had a mini-base, sometimes called a "pod-foot". I fabricated bases for both from alloy sheet - and filled in any gaps with Milliput. The original bow-string wire (missing) was replaced by me, by cut pieces of straightened paper clips onto the ends of the re-shaped bows. Besides replacing the usual wire (which has the effect of pulling down the top of the bow) actually holds it in it's shape far better than before - and thus my solution improves the figure, i think.

Then - it was just a paint job for both.

My slightly smaller (50mm) Indian Chief (JoHillco - again 1950's) - with magnificent headress, was just missing the end of his rifle - so I did the usual drill and paper-clip repair to the rifle end, glueing it in place and then repainting. A lovely little figure - junked into a job-lot, when a ten minute repair fixed him up. ??????

They are now ready to join my still-growing tribe.:D jb

I have just completed painting a western horse (By Benbros) and a Charbens Cowboy - who by some magic fitted together so nicely, I decided to pair them up. The horse had a large hole just below the reins on the right side, when found - and the cowboy had a pistol with hand missing. The hole was filled - and a donor arm with pistol from Dorset Model Soldiers had the hand and pistol pinned in place. (Note the wonderful original holsters on this figure - one empty and the other holding his second weapon).

I've also included my JoHillco cowgirl in the pic - just to keep him company. Both have pistols drawn - so maybe there is something up!

I also have quite a few more repaired Westerners in my stash - but I'm waiting for later in the year, when the nights draw in a bit more - before starting to paint those up. jb
