This is a Tamiya T34 kit I bought some time ago. Before starting on a friend's planes I thought it best to try out the new airbrush on one of mine. What I tried to do here is implement color modulation to make a single color afv look visually interesting. I will post some more shots as I finish the little bugger.

More experimenting with weathering techniques. I clear coated but did not have the gloss. Oops. Did not go as well . A bit to dark for me. No worries winter camo time. Also Oil wash and then some dry brushing. Then the cable broke. Just lovely. Not my day but the rust and highlighting went well. I will post more as we go along..

Very nice results, KV! Can you tell us a little more about your technique, and about the brush and its features? I use a Paasche VL myself, which I like, but I'm always looking for info that might be useful, you learn something everywhere ;)

Prost!

Thanks Brad. The techniques are pretty much the standard modeling stuff in regards the current trends. I read a lot of the modeling mags. The color modulations is basically laying down a primary base coat over a bit of pre-shading. Pre-shading requires shooting dark into areas that would have shadows. Then coming back over the primary base coat with a lighter shade (made by adding a small amount of white.) and putting that over the center of the panels. Anyway I screwed up using a matte clear coat. Gloss would have allowed the wash of thin black oil base fall into the crevices better. As it was it darkened the crap out of it. I had to go back and do some dry brushing and played around with it. No worries as it is going to get winterized!

The Aztek is made by Testor's I believe. It has multiple tips for different uses. It is very new to me so I can't tell you a lot about it. I got it for half off though. One thing is that it is either single or double action. Can be set by turning a small wheel in the handle. Still learning .

Since the last episode I have covered the entire tank with hairspray. Yes, hairspray. After that dried I whitewashed the tank with irregular panels of white acrylic from Vallejo.

I am not a fan of winterizing models. I totally liked your green version better..:redface2: Michael

Hi, KV, was that to support chipping? It's a popular method in the scale modeling world. I've seen variants of the method of removing the paint that settled on the dried hairspray patches. One is to use a Scotch-Brit pad and gently scratch it away, revealing the color below. Others use a stiff-tipped brush, or even tape.

Prost!

Yes it was Brad. Chipping indeed.{sm0}

not used the hairspray method myself since I was a kid I use alcohol blending solution now which gives a great effect. Good to see you playing with an airbrush. I use an Iwata Revolution myself which, is a really excellent airbrush system.

There are still a lot of techniques for me to learn. But, I am having a fair bit of fun.{sm3}
