I won't go into the story other than this question. A package with $48 worth of soldiers was tracked to "out for delivery" from my post office on Friday Nov 27. Never got it and it shows on tracking still in transit. Contacted my post office they can't find it. Since it was sent 1st class am I just out of luck as far as receiving compensation even tho it clearly is USPS fault?

Gary,

I think it should be the shipper (the seller) who should be out, not you, as he chose the method of delivery.

Brad

Brad you are correct. Unfortunately the shipper is a long time friend who I have been buying from for 15 years. He has said he would refund me but I just feel bad to do that knowing it is fully the post office fault.

Gary...

you do what you want...

but your credit card should...
and Paypal definitely will...
stand behind you as the buyer...
who did not receive his item after he paid...

it's always on the seller when a package doesn't arrive...
always...

Due Friday and it's just Sunday - personally, if it were me, I'd give it at least until monday especially if the seller is your friend. If it comes late, you can then argue about shipping costs and get a refund from the USPS.

Gary,

If the seller is your friend and you don't want him to absorb the full $48, why don't you guys share the pain, 50/50. I have to think it will show up eventually. Once when a package I shipped didn't show and I was talking to Shannon about it (may she rest in peace), that is what she told me and sure enough it did show up.

Gary,
There are a number of things that could be going on, one of which believe it or not, it might still be on the mailmans truck and he hasn't delivered it yet, seen this before a number of times.

Out for delivery means just that, it's not in the post office and is out for delivery.

Not to mention Friday after Thanksgiving is crazy busy for the post office.

As others have said, give it another day or so and see what happens, don't jump to conclusions just yet........................

Yes I will give it a few days. But there already have been checks by the post office in an attempt to locate it none with any luck. One of the problems is the mail person that day it was her third day on the job, she was brand new. Another was on one of the delivered pieces of mail that day had a "P" written on it which means this customer has a package. Also I found this out in speaking with a supervisor that if it was delivered and scanned to a wrong address there is a gps device in the scanner that will show where it was delivered.
No this is not the end of life as we know it but I know if there is a negative out come the post office will just say tough, you fill in the blank!

I'm still waiting on a claim from USPS submitted in September . . . the local post office can't even track the claim! These hard-to-find Mignot horse-drawn vehicles were left in plain sight at the front door while a hold mail order was in effect during some travel in August. So good luck! At least I got the local PO to stop leaving things in plain sight, but that's little consolation.

I am currently tracking a book order placed from a shop in Tucson on 11/24 and posted the same day. The order sat in the PO for 4 days before any movement occurred, when it then moved WEST to California on 11/28. It still shows as sitting in California. On the other hand, I just recently got books sent at media rate from Wisconsin in just 2 days. No rhyme or reason to delivery time it seems. Once tracked a package to Baltimore where it just went MIA. Showed up 6 months later. Have no idea what adventures it went on in it's short trip to me in Germantown, less than an hour from Baltimore.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I recently purchased 2 magazines from Brownells. They were sent out via USPS with tracking. They showed as being delivered on 11/24 even though I had not received them. I contacted the post office and was told that if it shows that the package was delivered then that is the end of tracking. I was also told I could file a claim or contact the shipper. I was waiting until the end of the Thanksgiving weekend before doing anything and sure enough the package showed up today.
