Mounted Plastic Figures

with Conte's quality and sculpting of plastics, even though the expense is enormous, everyone needs some mounted figures

mexicans at the alamo

foreign legion and arabs (bet those camel riders would look awesome)

vikings mounted

and for all of our napoleonic fans, and there are a few out there on other company threads,
the mounted figures Conte could create in plastic for the napoleon era would definately rival K&C metal if not even be superior, keeping in mind one is plastic and the other metal

now this is a topic for discussion

I,ve been wishing that conte would do napoleonics for a long time now and the conte plastic figures just keep getting better.
I was never a big fan of the older softer plastic they had but I love the new plastic, its great, and the way that the new figures are made like the metal figures in seperate pieces and glued together is what I like most about the new figures.
No more of those limited one piece molds that limit the poses that can be produced. This gets rid of those blocks of plastic under the arms of firing poses and other poses where a one piece mold leaves extra plastic so the mold will seperate and I always hated that and it always looks funky when you go to paint the figures also.

I,m surprized that conte has never done any cavalry figures. I agree some napoleonic cavalry done in this new plastic would be awsome!!!

I wish some of the other metal companies would do there metal figures in plastic like this. I,d love to see britains and K&C do there napoleonics in plastic I could make TONS of great conversions out of them and would be in heaven.

How do we get conte to do some napoleonics???? Does he have any kids we can kidnap or something???:p

Mounted figures. Oh boy!
On the side of my Conte Stamford bridge set it lists a forthcoming Battle of Hastings set which one might conclude would have killer Mtd. Norman and Breton Knights.Hoping to see that someday.Plastics are EXPENSIVE to manufacture so maybe down the road.
Mounted Mexicans? Okay!

As far as Conte making Napoleonics, one could only hope.I know he likes to tie in movie themes and ones that are near and dear to his heart.Maybe I should contact him about a War and Peace theme but I dont know if that would fly. It's a bottomless pit for figures to do, especially in plastics! One might not want to begin such an extensive theme.

One of my to do projects for this Summer is to get a handle on spinning the resin/plastics like Barzo figures so maybe we'll have some 1812 Russians by Chicago. Aint making any promises but I'm going to try.Another learning process and I'm pretty thick sometimes.

Spending a little time each day trying to sculpt.I keep telling myself if I can draw it I can sculpt it.Baby steps but some progress being made.So far I have some French elites that while they look good enough for me, they arent that great. But like anything else it takes practice.
I look back at some of the 1st 15mm wargame figs I painted 20 years ago and some more recent things and it's night and day.

I think Conte has a blog sort of thing. Maybe we should all post and plead for mounted troops! He's just like us guys, he likes everything and it's proritizing what to focus on, will it sell, pay for itself someday.

Hey fubar that would be awsome if you could do your russains in resin. Then I could chop them all up and come up with all kinds of new poses. Your russains would be great for conversions and would keep me busy for awhile chopping those guys up. Tons of new poses to be had!!!

I think conte needs to sit down with a dvd of the waterloo movie for his movie tie in to a new line of figures. I wonder if hes ever seen the movie or thought about doing a napoleonic line.

What have you been using to do your sculpting fubar? I,ve tried to mess around with millput trying to scratch build figures but sculpting is not that easy but I still have fun messing around making troll looking creatures!!!:p

I wonder if we asked ken olsen if he would do a thread with a few pictures of the process of doing a figure from the ground up so we could see how he goes about it and what he uses and give a few tips. That would be a great thread.

Fish, Big miller bro put a link in , somewhere, to his website tutorial. I think it's in yer converting plastics thread.
Of course I shortcut everything but theres 2 things in there that stick { like greenstuf}. One is I got some little rubber tipped shapers, make all the differance.
I have to be repetitive, so I am just taking a few points, drumming them into my head, then read a little more off Bros webpage.
The other is doing it in layers, adding a little, let it dry, come back and add some more till you are ready to add detail. Also working on a bunch of things at a time, just like painting. I kept wanting to keep working on something , and kept getting thumbprints on it!

I use 2 part GREENstuf.Comes in a tube, mix yellow and blue= green.Still playing with it but starting to have fun rather than just frustration.

As far as Resin, the molds are already done.Just on the backburner until I get some other stuf sorted out and the weather improves.

I'm sure RC knows all about WATERLOO.Who knows, maybe theres some sculpts already done!

FUB:rolleyes:

Interesting what you guys are talking about. I am a Draughtsman by profession and have in my time designed various plastic mouldings which due to their complexity require multi part tooling. All I can say is that the costs are enormous for this type of process and Conte must have spent a small fortune so far on his current range of figures.
From a collectors point of view I would love to see a range of Napoleonic's, but due to the large selection of troops required for this period would the cost of injection tooling be viable?
If the figures could be made with seperate heads, packs, arms etc. a 'multi pose' range could be produced using a smaller number of moulds.
Just my thoughts on the matter.
I agree how do collectors get RC to make them?

I also would love to see more mounted figures in plastic. We all know Conte's detail is second to none. I would also like to see him release his GI's and future figures unassembled. This way you could paint the figures more accurate. As far as Naps. go, I'm sure he has read your threads and thought about it. He puts alot of eras out there, and converting Mex into Naps is right up the converts alley. I'm sure you could even take Brit 24ths, and turn them into Nap. armies. The new Viking sets look great. I would just say this about Conte, never say never. I still don't have any Alamo or Mex, in my collection. I want everything I see, but I only buy what I can afford at the time. Think about this, if you could have everything you wanted all the time, the Hobby would become boring. I feel it's the wait and anticipation, that keeps us glued and talking about the subject. To RC, just keep comming up with new figures, and keep listening to the ideas. Hobby On, Mike.

jeff

my thoughts somewhat similiar on the moulding for different pieces but was thinking maybe more along the lines of the horses and pieces, this way many of the mounts could be used for different era's to minamize the different horse poses and than only involve the mounted figures themselves to be prodiced.
it is a fact that plastic and moulds (molds) whatever, are expensive but if such a demand or need in the collector world was large enough Conte just may listen.
as Mike has stated if we keep on discussing new ideas and figures they may come to light someday.
even though the participation of RC is not on this board he will definately here the "war cry's" of collectors and get that great imagination of his working.

glad to see the posts have created at least some dialogue about Conte.

i only mentioned a couple of era's for mounted figures as the possibilities are endless and wanted to see what other collectors would come up with for ideas.

This is definately a K&C web fourm. However the intrest in Conte's from them is there also. If we keep babbling away, about Conte's, no doubt he will hear the chatter. If not RC himself, then one of his PR people. I had heard that to about copy rights and all. In this day and age, you have to be careful not to infringe on someones name. Just as well, you don't want these companies wasteing money fighting over who made what first. We want them making the coolist toy soldiers money can buy. Mike.
