I received a request from Michel (Mardasson on the forum) to assemble and paint in glossy toy soldier style an elephant battery made by Mountford Metal Miniatures.

Well what a kit! Just from looking at all the parts in the bags tells me that this is going to be a superb model when built.

A couple of photos to start with the box and the bags of parts………I’m off to sort the pieces out and take some more. To be continued………..

The 4.7-inch Mk1 Siege Gun 1895 is an awesome kit and thankfully comes with assembly instructions. The quality of the white metal castings is first rate and it appears that there will be very little flash to clean up if any at all.

Heavy Limber for towing the above gun comes with the choice of elephant or oxen draw bars. Again by the look of it not a lot to clean up.

Elephant and Mahout – the elephant comes in two hollowed out halves and has a choice of erect or dangly (que Simon! :D) trunks!

I have purchased extra gel type super glue for this project and of course the required amount of green paint for the gun and limber.

Still got a few parts to assemble but the gun is a whopper!……...going to look lovely in green.

The elephant is quite a nice model in it’s own right – I am really impressed with this kit. I forget to mention there is a whole page of written assembly instructions as well………to be continued

All the parts assembled and mostly in the correct place  Compare the gun with the Mahout figure and you can see what must have been a huge piece in real life. The elephant had to have a wipe of filler in the joints around the head, trunk and body halves, so tomorrow when this is dry the grey undercoat will be applied.

An impressive model and I can see why Michel sent it to me to assemble and then paint! ;)

To be continued…….

Great new project.!
I just got the 9drs and limbers from Fleubaix from (I ASSuME) Mountford castings. A lot of removal work, and some mold cave-in, as well as missing parts and no instructions:mad:
These look fantastic, and I would agree about the gel CA glue, will be great!

Mike, That's not too good! This I believe is an original kit by MMM. I agree this will look rather neat once the grey undercoat is applied – always brings out the detail.

Thanks

Jeff

That is a great kit, Jeff, and you're off to a great start. Michel will have a wonderful set to pose in front of his red sandstone walls.

Now, will the shabraque or whatever they called the blanket be green? :D

Prost!

Jeff,
Don't get me wrong, this MMM is top-notch quality and looks fantastic. The ones I got from down under look like they were done by my 10 year-old(s little sister. The castings are horrible, especially after waiting eight months to get them!
I'll be watching Your Eminence at work!

Brad the problem there will be that it won't show up against the elephant!:rolleyes::D

I've done some research on elephants, so if you need any advice on colour, please don't hesitate to give me a shout.

As for the trunk....mmmphhhh.....must......resist......can't......go....there....

Well done mate. Quick work and it looks fantastic. Might want to give it a quick squirt of Mr Sheen and buff it up for a glossy finish mind.;)
