Hi Guys,
At the end of the year we frequently see lists of the best movies so time for the Treefroggers list{sm3}.

I have done this by only including movies where there was a thread started on it. Have not included just released Xmas releases as quite a few might not have had time to see them yet.

Rather than give everybody just one choice I have chosen the multiple vote option but you can only pick your top three. I did this as I suspect one movie would dominate if we only voted for one.

So here are our choices.

12 Years a Slave
47 Ronin
300 Rise of Empire
Dawn of Planet of the Apes
Exodus
Fury
Guardians of the Galaxy
Grand Budapest Hotel
Intersteller
Lone Survivor
Noah
Red Tails
The Equalizer
The Monuments Men
Transformers 4
Wolf of Wall Street

I saw 9 of the 16 listed.

Not much of a list. Red Tails [Terrible] was 2012 and 12 Years a Slave [Boring] was 2013.
Some others in doubt, but didn't bother to look.

My three in order:
1. Unbroken
2. The Imitation Game
3. Jersey Boys

I also thought some were 2013. The Imitation Game has gotten some good reviews but the directors apparently played with the truth.

LOL, they all do that. Playing to the masses probably.
I'm waiting for The Liberator to see how historical it really is.
South American history I have little knowledge. Hoping to learn
something. Missed it in the theater, so will have to wait for the DVD
on 10 March
2015.

Seen most of the movies listed in the poll but prefer to list Two that weren't included.

1) The Hobbit - Battle of Five Armies (varied from the book as usual with Peter Jackson, but still very enjoyable)
2) Guardians of the Galaxy (Very funny and exciting movie)
3) Edge of Tomorrow (Terrific battle scenes, Tom Cruise at his best)

Thanks for the feedback. Some might consider my movie poll more interesting than your one. Already got people talking about movies I did not include.

As for movies that might have been pre 2014 I was going on when threads were started on this forum. Movie release times can vary quite a bit. For example the Water Diviner opens in USA four months after release here. The Imitation Game opens here next week so hence one reason for not being on my list.

Unbroken, according to today's paper, looks like it is No 2 in the box office in the USA. Was supposed to open here on 26th DEC but if it did it is not in the two main cinema chains and might only be showing in art house type cinemas.

With regard to Jersey Boys you will just have to put down its absence from the list to me not being a musical fan.

As for your comment you did not bother to look you may wish to note that the fact you commented upon Red Tails indicated you looked as far as no 12 on a list of 16. However your lack of enthusiasm for my list noted.

How about this time next year you start the movie poll ?

Jersey Boys wasn't a particularly good movie and this showed up in the box office.

Unbroken was not bad although I thought that Railway Man with Colin Firth (which had a somewhat similar theme) was better. Both didn't get overwhelmingly critical receptions. However, I thought both were pretty good movies.

According to whom? I wouldn't dismiss the AFI Top 100, for example.

For example? AFI AWARDS selections are made through AFI's unique jury process – in which scholars, film and television artists,
critics and AFI Trustee
s determine the most outstanding achievements of the year.

I didn't know we were to select based on box office.

I also liked The Railway Man, but the poll selection was for three. If it had been to select 100 I'd listed more.

Granted, but still, in effect, a poll. From their website: In 1998, AFI invited more than 1,500 leaders from across the American film community – screenwriters, directors, actors, producers, cinematographers, editors, executives, film historians and critics among them – to choose from a list of 400 nominated films compiled by AFI and select the 100 greatest American movies.
It just happens to be a poll or a selection by a cross section of people whom we trust.

At any rate, there is no harm in a poll, silly as it may be, to see what we all like.

Although I didn't choose it, I liked The Equalizer because I used to love the TV series and thought it a pretty good action movie. Not the greatest movie but hit a chord with me just like Jersey Boys did with you.

Yes, that is a poll.

It is a good reminder that I need to get to the movies more often given how few of these I have actually seen. I saw Red Tails and was thoroughly underwhelmed. No cliche was off limits! Guardians of the Galaxy was OK in a light hearted kind of way. I like my movies pretty light so there is always a pronounced bias.

Polls are a waste of time. Notice the lack of interest in the number
of selections.

In your opinion polls might be a waste of time. However the purpose of starting the thread/poll was to stimulate a movie discussion. I can not help but notice that you were the first to post after I started it and so far you have posted 6 posts discussing movies and polls.

I am not surprised some have got no votes. John from Texas has not voted for Noah yet ^&grin

Even more significantly OzDigger has made a rare appearance{sm4}
