Moving Your Display Cabinets to Different Rooms (1 Viewer)

I don't have many moving wheel models in my collection - but I have found a sensible, inexpensive and non-permanent solution to minimise moving/rolling - is to apply a small blob of blu-tack to the inside of the wheels, where they meet the axle. This can be quickly taken off, when you wish - and leaves no permanent damage, isn't immediately obvious as it can't be seen - but does slow down, or stop movement of the wheels/piece.

As regards damage to glass - just treat glass shelves with care - and take your time when handling pieces. jb

Thanks for providing the info, clip and link Moe, it has certainly given me food for thought! I was at my TS Shop yesterday and my dealer told me about one of his glass cabinet shelves shattering for no apparent reason. Luckily there was only a few figures on the shelf so collateral damage was minimal.

All this though makes me want to race home at break neck speed to see if the cabinets are ok and check for any minuet cracks! {sm2}

Hello Brian

I am almost finished moving my collection into another house and I am relieved it’s coming to an end. I wrapped tissue paper around most of my figures and then placed them into cardboard boxes for transportation. I also placed my AFV/vehicles etc in boxes and put some tissue around them, or in the case of the wheeled vehicles, under and in front of the wheels to stop them moving around in the boxes. Except for one of my glass cabinets, I managed to move all my cabinets without dismantling them although I did remove the shelves beforehand. Other than one minor hitch, everything went to plan and I didn't have any casualties’ among the troops, damage to the vehicles or cabinets. It was an epic move and not one that I would like to do in a hurry again!

Tom

Tom,

good to hear that you had a successful move, and so will not need to send any of the troops or equipment 'down south' to my surgery for R&R :)

John

Yes indeed. First clearing off and cleaning a large enugh size table, transfer the figures from the cabinet and lay them flat on a sturdy sheet of cardboard. Use the card board as a tray to move the figures and set them on the table just as they lay. Several sheets of cardboard act as transport trays while preventing the figures from getting scratched.

I need some clarification about how deep a scratch needs to be in order for it to weaken glass. This morning Tom and I were witness to Waynepoo climbing up onto his high horse in his hobby room{sm4} and making some wild claims about how deep a scratch would need to be. I would love to prove him wrong. {sm3}

How deep a scratch can a scale model AFV make in glass! I asked? it's my hobby room and my high horse. :wink2:{sm4}

Guys,
Moving TS and showcaes is a breeze.^&grin My good lady wife and I have just moved 14 out of 16 full showcases, two more to go. It has only taken four days and nights. So far only four WIA figures to go to Obee for a bit of R&R and a touch up. Finally eight years of collecting will come together in one big room.:smile2:
To sum up: I will never attempted this again. A true nightmare{sm4}
Cheers Howard

I need to wait and see how well I do when I place them back in the cabinet.
