Hi Hockoy, I guess as it's your model you can do it how you like, but as you did ask :) Imo it looks to dark and I would suggest that you repaint it all in a lighter color, say sandstone, then add some blackening as from explosion(s) and subsequent fire(s).

I'm not sure what you wanted to achieve with the windows but as it appears the model represents a single building the windows appear to miss-aligned. You could make this less obvious by breaking out parts of the top or bottom of some of the windows as if they have had some bricks knocked or blown out. You may also like to mount the building on a base and add a sidewalk and some debris etc.

Welcome Hickory.:)

Not only did you come out of the darkness and expose yourself as a new member, you had the gumption to expose your self to criticism. What a brave soldier.

And, then of all the members to first comment, you got Ozdigger.

As far as your building goes, its better than anything I have built from scratch. But the window comment is a good one.

Welcome, this is a great place to start, there are many talented people that

can give you lots of terrific ideas. I would recommend you review the posts

of Alexdakar he is very talented and is sure to give you lots of great ideas.

He is also one of the best painters on the Forum.

Lots of good stuff here!

Thank you for the suggetions, as I said it was my first one, and there will be plenty more to come!

I forgot to ask a question in my reply above: If I make a base, I feel comfortable with carving the small details such as cobblestones, but I don't know how to lessen the width of the foam, because the piece of foam that I bought was very thick. How do I make an even street with the sidewalk rising a little above it?

Not bad for a 15 yr old. Don't worry they will get way better. What I did with the street is draw it with a marker and then scraped the street with a rasp. The street won't be smooth but I wasn't going for that. You could also get some foam board which is a 1/4 in thick and make that the sidewalk. :)

Hockoy,

That is amazing for the first time and I could never do anything like that. If you paint it, it will look much cooler, you might want to put some camoflauge on it to make it look realistic.

Excellent job especially for the first time!!!!

Hockoy,

Not bad for a first effort. Keep building. The more you do the better you get. I see you're also interested in history. The more you study the history of WWII, the more ideas for dioramas you'll come up with.

Keep at it!

It's almost impossible to reduce the thickness of foam as a base material without getting a very uneven surface. You may be better off using plywood which can also be scratched to represent cobblestones. Plywood is also less flexible and makes a more secure base when you need to move your diorama.

Btw, yours was a good effort for a first attempt. Foam is a difficult material to work with if you don't have the proper tools, or the appropriate density and thickness of foam.
