My very first Napoleonic figure arrived today in the mail. Its from the Britain's Museum Collection #10005 Black Watch Highlander, Napoleonic Wars, 1815. I have really admired the pictures of the new British 42nd Foot and the French 4th Lancers that are soon to be released by Britains so much so that I have decided to collect this series (pre-orders have all been made). Hopefully it is my plan to use these figures to create a diorama of the fighting at Quatra Bras just prior to Waterloo. Here are some pics of my first one.

I think the current Napoleonic offerings by Britain are very nice, and the available scenic/diorama pieces that Britain has made for the Defense of Hougomont is hard to beat. Once I obtain the 42nd and the 4th Lancer figures I might try and get the Hougomont series but that could be difficult since so many are now retired and/or sold out. On the upside, I am really glad that I am getting with the new offerings during the pre-ordering stage.

Well Mike: Are you going to make your crusaders jealous?;) Napoleonics are a nice era to collect but a large variety of figures. I been trying to avoid them but did get some Frontline mounted and Del-Prado mounted figures. You will have to plan a large diorama for the Waterloo battle.:) Nice figures to collect and the picture is great. John

Great figure Mike and I am sure if you scout about on eBay, you'll have no problem acquiring previous Britains Napoleonic releases.

great choice mike im heading into the matte side of collecting with the museum collection but will prob pick up a few of the Nap blackwatch series aswell to compliment them :)

An excellent 1st choice. I am also looking forward to the Britians 42nd releases for my Waterloo collection. Will have to make room for yet another Square.

From what I have been able to learn from some recent reading, at the battle of Qautre Bras, the 42nd was in line facing Marshall Ney's forces when they were set upon from the rear by the Lancers. The 42nd at first thought the lancers were allied cavalry approaching them to give support. By the time they realized they were being attacked by French cavalry they hardly had the time to form a proper square. Supposedly, the square they were able to form corraled some of the lancers in its interior where some viscious fighting took place.

By the way - thanks to all for the nice comments and support.

Mike,

Whats your plans on doing your diorama. Did you preorder multiples of each figure to make a full square corner of a square? I plan to do a full square hopefully. I dont no why I didnt with the K&C figures because I do own some of there Napoleonics. But I thought I would do one with these upcoming figures. Plus those beautiful lancers cant wait! :D

I will probably do a partial or half square on a simple grassy base. I have had a brief thread "conversation" with Ken Osen about the possibilities of making a backdrop painted so that the remainder of the square appears in the background. So far I have only pre-ordered one of each of the 42nd highlanders. Of course I plan on adding multiples as I can afford them. I believe there will be plenty of time to do that. I have also pre-ordered 2 of the 4th Lancer troopers, one of the 4th Lancer officer, and one of the 4th Lancer standard bearer. On the Britains web site, these Lancers are listed as already sold out in Europe based on the amount of pre-orders received. Since the Lancers are limited to only 500 each, I plan to double up on these first while they are available.

Hi Mike:

Sounds like a good plan and nice idea. The three French cavalry are pretty low now, less than 25 pieces left. That said more pieces will be added in the May catalog so you an keep a healthy variety of French cavalry going. And of course the Highlanders will be stock items for the foreseeable future.

All the best,

Richard
